CHAPTER 6: NERVOUS ME

I walked out of class after the bell rang only to be approached by Nicki. I concluded that I didn't like Nicki.

She had a habit of only talking to me about Ryan and not actually calling me by my birth given name. "You know new girl, like I said before Ryan will never fall for a fat ugly nerd like yourself."

"Why thank you, " I reply calmly and with a smile plastered on my face.

"Wait what?"

She looked so confused. It took everything I had in me, not to roll over laughing right in front of her. "Bye Nicki have a good day!" I started walking away when suddenly something she said made me stop dead in my tracks.

"That's what he told me Bethany."

Really my full name? It  took me a second to convince myself that that truly wasn't the important part, but there was a nagging feeling in me and I just wanted to correct her.

In the end I didn't. I just turned my head around and scoffed. "I doubt that," I told her.

"Not the fat ugly and nerd part obviously. Ryan is a gentleman." She actually flipped her hair. "But the rest he did say. At the most, he just wants to be your friend. I just thought I would warn you before you get your heart all broken."

I gave her a smile that signified that she was a psycho. "Well then it's a good thing I only want to be friends too." She continued to stare at me and I mirrored her look, not sure where  it was really going.

"I think his exacts words were, 'Why would I ever fall for a girl like that'."

I didn't really care if Ryan would ever fall for me, but still comments like that stung me. In my eyes, seeing as how we just met, it was as if already figured that I wouldn't be good enough for him. Why would someone like him fall for someone like me right? It wouldn't have been the first time I had heard that.

What I didn't get is why Ryan would even want to be my friend then. With the sunken feeling in my body, I began to walk to class.

School was over, and the heavy feeling still hadn't gone away. I was walking with my head down and I noticed a pair of shoes belonging to someone who was standing a few feet away from me. I looked up to see Ryan. I gave him a fake smile.

"Something wrong?" He asked me.

How the heck did he see right through me? I didn't like that. "Nothing, nothing. What's up?"

He gave me a really big smile before continuing. "Don't forget about dinner at my house tonight."

"Yeah I won't," I returned his smile. I still couldn't help to think about what Nicki had told me. Now, another thought had popped into my head. What if this dinner thing wasn't really a dinner thing? What if he was just going to prank me in front of Nicki and all his friends.

It was now a legitimate fear of mine, which caused me to walk sullenly back to my car.

"Mom! Dad! Anybody home!"

My mom ran her own wedding business every since she stopped modeling so I figured she would be the one to be home.

I heard a faint noise. I loved my house but I hated it because it was a two story house so I never knew if what I heard was my imagination or where it was coming from. I was pretty sure it was my mom though. I waited a few seconds to see if she would yell back again. When she didn't I yelled, "Huuuuuhhhhh?!" After a few seconds I heard footsteps and a soft laughter.
