CHAPTER 36: EVERY KIND OF EMOTION YOU CAN THINK OF

"Doctor you need to do something!"

I looked frantically around me, not seeing any medical equiment that I needed to perform the surgery. Why was I here? I wasn't a doctor. Didn't they know that?? I looked down at the table and there was Ryan. He was cut open.

"Doctor he's going to die!"

"I'm not a doctor!" I screamed back at them.

"Yes you are!"

I looked around but there were only stuffed animals all around me. A machine started rapidly beeping and everyone was screaming at me.

"He's going to die!"

And,

"This is all your fault!"

I didn't know what to do. I picked up a stuffed animal to stop the bleeding but when I put it to his chest it turned into a knife. The line on the machine went flat and I stared at the blood on my hands.

"You just killed him, doctor."

I looked around and no one else was in the room except for me and Ryan.

My head shot up and I started beating rapidly. I heard the beeping from a machine and still paranoid about the nightmare that I had just had, I brought up my free hand to my chest to calm myself down. With my right hand I had been holding Ryan's hand.

He was in the hospital right now. He was supposed to stay there since he was going to have his surgery as soon as the doctor was available. Apparently right now he was dealing with multiple life or death situations. Those patients required surgery right then and there, and Ryan was doing okay, so they said it would be fine to hold off on it for just a little.

I looked at Ryan who was still sleeping. I had fallen asleep on a chair, with my head on my right arm (now numb). I told Ryan I would be there for him, and I couldn't bear the thought of leaving him at a moment like this.

Ryan's mom, Barbara, was in the room right next door. They had an extra bed so I guess they had let her sleep there for the time being. I knew that after the surgery though, she would be staying in this room with Ryan. Even then, I was not going to leave him. I was just going to sleep in the waiting area or something like that, if I could.

I looked around me. Flowers and stuffed animals filled the room. So that's where the stuffed animals came from. I sighed quietly, but seeing as how Ryan was fast asleep, I decided that I should try to get some more sleep also. Pretty soon I had dozed off into a deep sleep.

I had another dream. Except in this one, something kept tapping me, repeatedly. I tried to smack whatever it was away, but I couldn't find it. I slowly came out of my sleep, and realized that something WAS actually tapping me. It was Ryan; he was tapping my head.

"Wake up sleepy head."

I smiled at him. "For your information, I was wide awake a little while ago. But I, being the nicest person alive, didn't want to wake you up, so I fell back asleep."

He chuckled. "Wow, you really are the nicest person alive," he said with a tint of sarcasm in his voice.

"That's not nice," I pointed out. "Next time I'm going to wake you up."

This time he laughed. "I'm kidding, Beth. Come sit next to me."

"But-"

"Please?" He opened his eyes wide, giving me a puppy face.
