CHAPTER 23: MAYBE I JUST DON'T WANT YOU IN MY LIFE (PART 2)

I stared at who I now knew for a fact was my biological mom, at a loss for words.

"Honey-"

My shocked look turned into a look of disgust. "Don't call me that."

She stayed quiet. "May I come in?"

"How about no?" I smiled at her with the sweetest, fakest smile anyone had ever seen.

Ryan came close to me. "I have to leave in a little sorry." He looked apologetic but I nodded and smiled at him in understanding. Just so he would know it was okay I interlocked my fingers with his.

The woman looked past me to Ryan, then to my parents for some kind of hope, that maybe one of them would invite her in. She cleared her throat. "Well I think you all may want to hear what I have to say."

"Julia Brenner you have some real nerve walking up into OUR house, asking to be let inside."

I looked toward my dad. "Julia Brenner," I whispered quietly enough so that I was the only one to hear.

"George will be coming by soon also, I just thought I would canvas the area first."

My eyebrows furrowed together.

"Your father sweetie." The woman, Linda, smiled sweetly at me.

I smiled back at her. "I think you must be mistaken. My father's name is Alex."

I heard Ryan chuckle, and from the corner of my eyes I could see him holding his hand up to his mouth trying to stop himself from laughing. This made me start smiling but I pulled my lips inwards to hide it.

My mom nudged my dad and told him, "Let's just hear her out."

"You'll be hearing from me again if we don't talk today."

My mom ushered her inside the house and closed the door. We had already let the freezing cold air inside the house, and now my mom had to turn the heater up so that we wouldn't shiver. Although, it might have been a good thing to let Julia freeze.

"I think maybe we should all sit down for this."

We all looked at her with annoyance. But, we all sat down after because we were getting tired of standing. I didn't sit right away though; I looked at Ryan and pointed to my wrist and shrugged my shoulders. I was trying to ask him if he had to leave.

"You know..." Ryan started talking then took a pause. He walked over close to me and put his arm around my waist. Then he smiled at my biological mother. "I think I'm going to stay right here." He pushed me down lightly where he was holding me so that I would sit down with him.

I grabbed my necklace out of habit and Julia spoke up.

"I see you still wear that necklace. I'm glad to see you still like it. I hope it reminds you of me and your father every once in a while."

I looked at her and scoffed. "I'm sorry?"

"The necklace. Your father and I bought it for you when you were just a baby. B for Brenner, so we would always be close to your heart."

I let out a noise through my nose. "You guys have never been close to my heart. I didn't even know about you guys until recently. And furthermore I do not care to know you guys. You guys abandoned me. Where ever did you learn your wonderful parenting skills? Seriously, you should write a book."

"I see I have a witty and sarcastic daughter."

"You have nothing. And I am NOT your daughter." Ryan grabbed my hand and held it.
