CHAPTER 12: JUST A MEMORY

The first thing that ran through my mind when I woke up was that I was extremely exhausted. The second was that I had made a huge fool of myself at Ryan's house the previous day. I ran my hands down my face and then rubbed my eyes trying to wake up. My hand reached out to my right trying to get my phone but I couldn't feel it anywhere. I groaned and flung my body to the other side of my bed. I dropped half my body over the edge to look for my phone. I found it within a few seconds and I pushed myself off the floor to get onto my bed again. I stayed laying down, since laziness was prohibiting me from getting up. I unlocked my phone andsaw that Ryan had texted me during the night when I had fallen asleep. Oh great. I sat up and pressed on my messages so that I could read whatever Ryan had sent.

Ryan: Hey Beth?

Ryan: Beth we need to talk

Ryan: Please don't ignore me....

Ryan: I get that you don't want to talk right now, but please just respond to me, send me a word, a letter, hell an emoji, just something

Ryan: I just need you to hear me out.

He had sent each message about 15 minutes apart. I figured he had thought I was ignoring him since it was early when he sent those messages, but in reality I had fallen asleep around 9:30 or so. I checked the clock to see the time. It was 8:16; I was shocked, I had actually almost gotten a full twelve hours of sleep. My mind pondered this for a while. Then my mind started drifitng off into other thoughts. Before I knew it, I had started thinking about the movie Sleeping Beauty. I snapped back into reality. The messages! He had sent me even more messages, but these were closer apart in time.

Ryan: Bethany Lorianne Diaz, I will go over your house, I swear I will.

Ryan: Look I'm sorry, okay I'm really sorry about our argument, please just reply to me.

Ryan: Doesn't it count for something that I'm apologizing and actually trying? Please Beth I'm trying here.

Ryan: Alright well I guess you're not going to reply. I'll text you tomorrow or something to see when you want to come to work on the project. Goodnight.

That was the end of his messages. I fell back onto my bed. "Why is he doing this??" My door opened slightly.

"Who? What?"

I sprang up from my bed. "Mom! I didn't think anybody was home!"

"Well honey it's not even 8:30, both your dad and I are home at the moment. We'll be leaving soon though. Are you going to Ryan's house?"

"No. Not today."

She hesistated for a while. She was holding something back, I knew she was debating whether or not to tell me something.

"Barbara called me."

I knew it. I knew something was up. What did she tell her?

"And..?" I motioned my hand as if telling her to continue.

"She said she thinks you and Ryan had a fight." Just as I was about to say something she held up her hand to stop me. "I know you. I know you don't want to talk about it right now. But just know that I am here if you need to. I'll make you some chocolate chip pancakes right now, and then I have to leave okay? But just please enjoy your day sweetie and don't let anything get you down." She smiled at me and then walked out of my room, closing the door behind her.

I let a little smile form on my face after she had left. I did my morning routine and then slowly walked down my stairs to eat some pancakes, that I knew my mom had started making from the smell that was entering my nose. I sat down at the table wondering what I should do for the day. I wasn't really motivated to do anything. And there wasn't much I COULD do. I looked outside the nearest window and saw that it was raining. I wondered when it was going it start snowing. It was supposed to snow in Colorado. I loved the snow. I remembered going to the snow once. I couldn't put my finger on the exact day though. I was most likely young.
