CHAPTER 9: WHAT JUST HAPPENED?

"What do you have on your face?" He started rubbing my cheekbone really hard.

My eyes were widened from the shock I had just undergone. I started blinking really fast and I couldn't process what had just happened. "W-what?"

"You have something black on your face." He pulled back from me and stared at me with those beautiful blue eyes of his. His caring look turned into one of worry. He furrowed his eyebrows. "Are you okay Beth?"

No I'm not okay! You leaned in as if you were going to kiss me but really I just had something on my face! Do you THINK I'm okay Ryan? Are you crazy?? You are such a guy. The literal heart attack I just had does not make for an okay person.  "Yeah." I tried to laugh as real as I could. "Of course I'm fine, why wouldn't I be fine. I had something on my face, you leaned it, you rubbed it off. Im fine." I was rambling again. I smiled really big to try to hide the fact that my heart was practically beating out of my chest.

"Sorry I didn't mean to invade your personal space."

"Oh no it's fine, it's fine!" I waved my hand at him as if dismissing his apology. In the seconds when he was leaning in my heart felt something that my brain was trying to deny. I was starting to see that it was going to be an ongoing internal battle.

He smiled at me and let out a deep chuckle. "Stop saying the word fine Beth."

"So how about that project huh," I said trying to change the subejct immediately.

He furrowed his eyesbrows again. His face looked adorable when he was confused or worried. I took this moment to look at his face, as if that wasn't creepy at all. I couldnt keep my eyes off him.

"Yeah..let's start on the project."

And that is exactly what we did for the rest of the day, our project.

**********

It's Saturday. You gotta wake up Beth. It's probably late already. You have to eat. I groaned. I brought my fingers up to my eyes to hold them open, hoping that would help me wake up. Without moving from my position, I reached over to my nightstand and grabbed my phone to check the time. Eleven-Thirty! I pushed myself off my bed and dragged my feet across the carpet. Still half asleep I brushed my teeth, went to the bathroom, and took a quick shower. I was hoping to get yesterday off of my mind but I couldn't. It played in my head like a broken record.

I walked downstairs to watch a movie. I knew my parents wouldn't be home. My mom was off trying to find a building where she could expand her wedding business, and my dad was who knows where. I threw my body on the couch and grabbed a nearby fuzzy blanket to keep me warm. I could hear the rain pounding outside on the porch. My mind was deciding whether I should make myself hot chocolate or not, but laziness took over and I decided to stay put.

The TV was on, I had chosen Sydney White. I was on the part where the guy Tyler asked Sydney out on a date. All of a sudden the doorbell rang. What the heck, who is that? I got up off the couch with my fuzzy slippers and fuzzy blanket, not caring that I was still in my pajamas. I swung the door open to reveal a very tired looking Ryan. I stared at him, not believing that it was him who was standing on my porch.

"Pajamas. Cute." He gave me a smirk that made me melt inside. I didn't like this effect he was starting to have on me. Be strong Beth! I stuck my tongue out and hugged myself even tighter. "Can I come in?"

"Oh sorry! Yeah, come in!"

He came in and rubbed his hands together while trying to blow hot air on them. He was barely wet, and as I peeped out of the window, I noticed a car that wasn't there before.
