CHAPTER 4: How Ryan saw it

Ryan POV (Since Beth's first day)

Just like any other day I woke up and did my usual routine. I went to school expecting everything to be exactly how it's been since the first day of senior year. But man was I surprised when it did not turn out the way I expected.

I was walking down the hall when I spotted Nicki. Another day of Nicki drama. She was my ex-girlfriend. Emphasis on the ex. I wasn't too fond of her anymore, but Nicki of course like always, had other plans for us.

I was about to turn around to walk away from her before she spotted me when I saw her practically yelling at someone. As I got closer I heard Nicki.

"Yoohoo I'm talking to you."

I looked towards who she was talking to. She didn't look familiar. Someone new? I raised an eyebrow. Well Nicki was making her feel uncomfortable it seemed and besides that there was something about her that irked me now.

She used to be the sweetest persn, but now at times she had a habit of making people miserable when she felt like it.

After hearing Nicki say one more thing I grabbed her arm carefully as to not hurt her, and told her, "Nicki cut it out." I turned towards the girl and saw her glaring at me with her arms crossed. Didn't girls like to be helped?

"Ryan don't even pay attention to her."

I turned to Nicki baffled at her change of tone. "Excuse me?"

"Baby c'mon lets just go to class." She looked at me with puppy dog eyes and pouted her lips.

"Nicki why don't you put a sock in it." I said, annoyed even more now. "Please just leave me alone. I told you, we're over."

I started walking away from her, towards my first class, even though I knew Nicki would be right behind me since we have the same class. We walked in and my eyes practically fell out of their sockets.

It was the girl from the hall. I pretended not to see her. It was one thing to save her but it was another thing to have that same person in your class.

Nicki scoffed at seeing her in our class and muttered some words. I looked at Nicki and as she looked back she smiled at me. I ignored her.

I walked to my seat and put my head down. About a minute later, from the corner of my eye, I saw someone walking to the seat behind me. I guess she's sitting behind me.

I decided I couldn't avoid her forever, so I did what any rational person would do in this situation and I turned around to introduce myself. She didn't look so mean and tough up close.

She looked up at me and I introduced myself. All she was doing was staring at me. Did I have something on my face? I introduced myself again and then she started rambling. I smiled. She had seemed more confident by the way she glared at me out in the hall.

I faced the front after trying to pay attention.

Our teacher just kept talking and talking, about our project, about our partners, about-

I felt a tapping on my shoulder. It turned out to be Beth asking what the teacher had been talking about. I wanted to laugh, not at her, but at her expression. She looked completely horrified. I figured she hadn't even heard anything the teacher was talking about.

I decided to catch her up on everything that we had been learning and what exactly she was looking for on our research project. I turned back around and did what any rational guy or any normal friend would do in this situation. I wrote her a note. I decided to give her my number. I figured it would help her out. And it wouldn't hurt to have her number.

Her eyes got smaller when I handed her the note. A relieved look washed over her face.

I turned back around and kept paying attention in class. She was a strange girl that one, but I could already tell things were going to get interesting.
