CHAPTER 25: THE COURT IS STILL IN SESSION?
This time I was up and ready. Nothing was going to stand in my way. I was dressed and ready to impress. Although I had no one to impress. My real meaning this morning behind "dressed and ready to impress" was really "dressed and ready to find out the final decision that was basically going to determine the rest of my life from here on out."
But I was ready.
I took one last look at myself in the mirror. There was a piece of hair sticking out from the top of my head and I violently brushed my hair down with my hands.
After I was done I raced down the stairs almost running into my dad at the bottom. I hadn't because I had managed to make a complete stop when I noticed him there.
"Well this is a difference from last week," he said as he grabbed me by my arms. That was the real reason why I hadn't run into him; I hadn't noticed him at all.
He let go of me and I almost broke into a run.
"Hey!" My dad whispered really loud.
"Yeah?" My face contorted into a confused expression.
He looked around very suspiciously and he nodded his head from me to him. My eyebrows furrowed together and I walked toward him very cautiously, not knowing what to expect.
"What?"
He looked around again and then got close. "Your boyfriend is in the living room."
"OH MY GOD DAD." I threw my hands up in the air and walked away from him. When I had walked away a little I turned around and gave him a look of disapproval, although the smile on my face gave it away that I didn't mean the look at all.
He started laughing and walked up the stairs.
I ran into the living room and into Ryan's lap, wrapping my arms around him. "Ryan!" I leaned in and gave him a kiss.
"Why are you so excited this morning?" He kissed me back.
"I think it's going to be good. And finally this can all be over."
I looked at him thankful for having him here through everything. I leaned in to give him a kiss to show him how grateful I was but my mom yelled out at us at that moment.
"Time to go kids! I want to get there really early today."
"Ugh," I groaned out loud.
Ryan laughed. "What happened?"
My eyes widened in realization that I expressed my annoyance at not being able to kiss him, out loud. But he didn't know why so I shrugged it off.
I sauntered over to my mom. "Mom, um," I paused for a second, letting my words slowly vanish into the air.
"Yes," she smiled at me as if she already knew what I was going to ask.
"I was wondering if Ryan and I could go in a separate car. We wanted to go get something to drink or eat first. But really quick I promise! Please please please?" I did my best puppy face at her which earned me a laugh and a yes from my mom.
"Thank you thank you thank you! I love you, you're the best mom ever." I hugged her and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
She laughed. "You're acting as if I just gave you permission to go on a romantic getaway with your boyfriend. I'm allowing you to go somewhere quick. No funny business."
"Moooom," I replied through my teeth.
We all left at the same time except in different cars. I let Ryan drive since I was tired. We were stopped behind a red light when I had yawned for the tenth time in like five minutes.
