Military AU where you are paired up with Kageyama, an amazing sniper, despite being polar opposites!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~"Get up and start shooting!"
You opened one of your (e/c) eyes and looked up at your partner, who was glaring at you with a pair of cold blue eyes. He was standing next to where you were lying behind a short wall that served as your cover, placing the sights of his sniper rifle over his eye and practicing his long distance shooting during a drill.
You were supposed to be doing the same, but you had decided to take a nap in the grass since you'd been unsatisfied with having to wake up even earlier than usual this morning for workouts. In response to his growl, you picked up your gun, which was lying nearby and propped it up against the top of the wall before lazily aiming and firing, shooting a dummy right in the head and knocking its helmet off.
You then laid back down again and shut your eyes, making Kageyama groan with annoyance. He hated how good you were at shooting even though you were the laziest person on the planet. He saw you as competition, since he was known at the military base for being the most skilled sharpshooter in the unit.
Since you were at the top of the list for being the best female sharpshooter, people admired you despite your laziness. Kageyama didn't, however, and he was perpetually annoyed by the fact that your closeness in skill had forced the two of you together as a pair.
"Tobio, will you carry me?" you murmured when you noticed him start to walk away to go and practice from a different viewpoint.
He simply grunted in return and turned his back on you. "Get your lazy ass up yourself and use your legs." He then sprinted over to another wall and rolled behind it, practicing moves he was going to use in battle.
Not wanting to be alone, you slowly stood up, stretched, and trotted over to where he was before crouching down next to him.
"Idiot! If this was a real battle, someone could've easily shot you or found our hiding place!" Kageyama hissed, giving you a royally pissed off look.
"It's only practice. Calm down, Kags..." You waved him off before peering over the small wall and shooting the dummy again, planting another bullet in its head.
Damn, why were you so good at that?
You adjusted your helmet on your head as you walked through the rainforest. The sounds of exotic birds, the howls of monkeys, and the chirping of cicadas was all you could hear, and the sounds combined filled your head with a strange white noise. The humidity was causing beads of sweat to form under your helmet, and you swatted at a mosquito for the umpteenth time, cursing under your breath.
The backpack that you carried wasn't getting any lighter, and neither were the guns weighing you down as well. As much as you loved your trusty sniper rifle, it was such a burden to carry. You looked over at Kageyama, who had a stern look set in his handsome features as he stared straight ahead, keeping his eyes on the trail and the people in front of him.
Normally, you'd be complaining by this point during your training, but this wasn't a simulation. You never complained during a real battle.
You didn't realize that you'd been staring at your partner as you blanked out until he met your gaze and gave you a questioning look. You shook your head quickly and looked away, trying to hide your blushing face.
Your attention was soon shifted to the situation at hand when your fellow troops stopped walking and peered in between a large clump of trees. You took a look for yourself and saw what they'd all stopped to stare at. An enemy camp was right there, surrounded by the bustling growths of the jungle, and you saw people walking around on guard.
Your leader started giving out orders, sending numbers of people in different directions to get into the correct formation for a sneak attack. He sent you crawling around one side of the camp, and Kageyama around the other, splitting up the inseparable duo.
I bet he'll be happy that he doesn't have to be with me for once, you thought as you crouched down behind a fallen tree and got into position. You watched your enemies wander around their camp, talking and checking their weapons, completely unaware of what was to come.
It wasn't long before you and your team launched an all out attack on the enemy base, opening fire on them. You stayed in your position, hiding and using your sniper rifle to pick off oblivious victims while remaining out of sight. It was crucial that neither you nor Kageyama were spotted or attacked from behind.
With bullets whizzing around, and the sounds of struggle intermingling with the loud gunshots and animal cries, you tried your best to remain steady and focused. You hated missions that took place in the jungle. It was a bit hard for you to handle to continuous loud noise and the overbearing mugginess, but you made sure not to complain for the sake of your team's morale.
As you gazed through your sights and turned your gun around to survey the scene, you saw Kageyama being approached by enemies. Without thinking, you stood up and shouted his name, alerting him to his attackers. He turned around, but they soon overcame him. He managed to shoot a few of them and kill them, but he still struggled to hold them off as they pulled out melee weapons and began attacking him.
You leapt over the fallen tree and sprinted across the battlefield to get to him. For one of the first times, you ran as fast as you could, if not faster, and picked some more of the men off with your gun. As more enemies poured out of the jungle behind Kageyama, you realized that they had been camping out nearby and waiting as well.
More of the troops in your team turned and ran over to help you out, assisting Kageyama in fighting off the onslaught. As you ran towards him and tried to pull the man off of him that was holding onto him, you felt a sharp pain in your leg that sent you stumbling down to the ground.
You grabbed a smaller gun out of its holster and shot the person who'd shot you in the leg before shooting Kageyama's attacker in the head. Once you knew he was safe for the time being, you held your gun tightly in your hand and screamed in pain, clenching your other hand into a fist and gripping a clump of dirt. You tried to get up and save yourself, but you couldn't. The pain was too great.
Kageyama quickly rushed over to you and scooped you up in his arms. "Shoot," he ordered as he started to run. You obeyed his command and rested your chin on one of his shoulders before holding your gun up over his shoulder and shooting the people who were chasing after you.
Soon, the enemies had been eliminated, and you'd captured yet another one of their bases. As your leader made orders to bring more teams into the new base to protect it, Kageyama carried you into an arriving truck and sat down in it with you on his lap. Once the truck was loaded, it drove back to the base camp, and he wordlessly carried you into the makeshift hospital, setting you down on a bed next to a nearby medic.
Due to the miracles of modern medicine, the bullet had made its way out of your leg with a lot less pain than you'd expected, and your wound had been cleaned thoroughly and patched up. When the medic left, you looked over at Kageyama, your eyes clouded slightly with tears.
"I'm sorry," you whimpered softly, feeling bad for making him carry you through such a dangerous situation.
He shook his head quickly and bowed slightly. "I should be thanking you. You... saved my life." There was a long silence as his eyes avoided your own for a while before he finally focused his gaze on you. "You know, I don't think I've ever seen you run that fast before... Let alone put effort into anything."
A tear escaped your eye as you chuckled slightly. "I only ran because someone I loved was in danger," you answered truthfully.
You saw his lips move and form some words that were completely lost in the chaotic sounds of the jungle, but you didn't need to know what he said. He leaned down towards you and kissed you, pressing his warm and slightly chapped lips against yours. He then sat down next to your bed and rested his head next to yours on your pillow, grabbing your hand and lacing his fingers in between yours.
Those actions alone were enough to let you know that he felt the same, and, soon, you didn't quite mind the situation you were in. The pain wasn't so bad when he was there to comfort you.
