Unrequited {Akaashi Keiji} (Request)

An AU in which Hanahaki disease is involved! From what I've been told, it occurs when a person has unrequited love for another, causing them to cough up flower petals unless it is removed through surgical means or the feelings are returned.

In the midst of a storm, you were glad to be sitting inside with a warm mug of hot chocolate in between your hands, watching the rain pour down on those unfortunate enough to be outside going about their evenings.

"Did I make it right this time?" a voice sounded just barely above the sound of rain crashing down on the roof.

With a small smile, you turned towards the direction of the voice and nodded. "It's perfect, Keiji! Thank you."

Your long time friend and coworker smiled in return and continued his previous task of cleaning the counters in the coffee shop while you enjoyed your break and continued staring out the windows, waiting for the person you desired to pay his weekly visit.

"You're very patient, you know."

Your (e/c) eyes narrowed as you looked back over at your friend. "Why do you say that?"

He sighed, "I've watched you sit there almost every Friday and stare and wait for him to arrive. On top of that, you deal with his stupidly complicated orders and his screeching voice, and I just have to give you credit for that."

You blushed slightly since you knew Akaashi was on to you. "Be quiet."

He pretended to zip his lips and toss the imaginary key to the side, his gaze never leaving the towel he was using to wipe the counters down.

You had just turned your gaze back to the window when you noticed a familiar figure appear in amongst the crowds of people passing by your coffee shop. "Keiji! Get out of the way, he's coming!"

You quickly leapt up from the chair you were sitting in and rushed behind the counter, nearly knocking your friend over. The force with which you tossed your cup of hot chocolate onto the counter caused some of the liquid to splash onto Akaashi's gray shirt, making him hiss with shock.

"(F/n)!" he grumbled and pulled his shirt away from his torso so he didn't get burned.

"I'm sorry, I'll clean it up in a sec!"

Akaashi looked at you, your eyes bright with hope as you watched the entrance and waited for your beloved customer to arrive. He then looked at the cup that had hot chocolate that he'd made specially for you and watched as the liquid dripped down the sides of the white mug.

"Koutarou! Welcome back!"

"(F/n)! What's up? How's my favorite barista doing today?"

Akaashi looked over at Bokuto and his gaze was met by Bokuto's golden one.

"Sorry, Akaashi, you know I appreciate you, but (f/n) always makes my orders just how I like them!"

To that, Akaashi scoffed and you laughed.

"What can I get for you today?" you asked Bokuto, brushing a wet leaf off of his jacket as you waited for him to make up his mind.

As he watched the two of you and how your eyes were fixated on his friend's face, Akaashi felt a familiar tickle in his throat and quietly made his way to the bathroom.

After shutting and locking the door, he leaned over the toilet as he was overcome with a violent coughing fit that ended with him watching flower petals weighed down by saliva fall into the water.

"So, Koutarou, catch me up on what's been going on! It's been a while since you've been in, and I'm on my break right now!" you suggested excitedly as you handed your friend the drink you'd made for him and sat down at a table with him.
