It was times like this when your soulmate really bothered you, whoever they were. You would be feeling perfectly peaceful and content as you jammed out to music while you did your homework, and then, all of a sudden, you'd feel a wave of depression hit you like a tsunami. Now, it was happening again.

Whoever your soulmate was, they had been feeling very down in the dumps lately, and you wondered what was going on with them. You had absolutely no idea who they could be, so you didn't know what kinds of situations they were in that made them feel so depressed. It was really suffocating from time to time.

You wished there was some way for you to help, but all you could do was sit and wonder who you were supposed to help.

"Oh, come on, Kenma, I'm not trying to offend you!"

Kenma turned his back on his teammate as he set the ball across the court to Kai instead. Kuroo sighed loudly and approached Kenma when the coach called a water break.

"Kenma, I wasn't trying to insult you; I just needed your sets to be higher," Kuroo explained as he opened his water bottle and took a long drink.

Kenma simply pushed his sweaty hair away from his face and kept his blank gaze fixed on the water bottle in front of him. "I'm sorry I'm not good enough," he whispered.

Kuroo clapped him on the shoulder, making the setter nearly spit out his water. "I'm not saying you're not good enough! I'm trying to help us work better as a team by giving you constructive criticism. Please, don't take it personally. For once."

Kenma looked up at the typical smirk on Kuroo's face and frowned. "You always want me to take things personally."

"Do not!"

"Do too."

"Do not."

"Do too."

"Do not."

"... Do too."

Kuroo finally gave up with a loud and dramatic sigh before walking back over to the court and entering the team circle. Kenma lagged a bit behind before he did the same.

Later that evening, as you were lying underneath your blankets in a rather depressed state, you heard a knock at your door. Groaning, you got out of bed and fixed your sweatpants before trudging over to the door and opening it. Standing outside, you saw your friend, Kuroo.

"Tetsurou? What do you want?" you asked softly and crossed your arms in front of your chest.

"Have you spoken to Kenma lately?" he asked, his eyebrows furrowing with worry.

"We talk everyday at school. Why? Is something wrong?"

"Well, he's been pretty down lately and nothing I say is helping. He seems to have a natural affinity for you, so I was wondering if you might be able to help him out."

"Is it really that bad?"

"Yeah. It's affecting the way he plays too."

You nodded. "Okay, I'll think of something."

After Kuroo left, you spent some time in your room, thinking of what you could do to make Kenma feel better. You'd been friends for a long time, and you knew how he was, but he was usually so quiet and neutral that you hadn't been able to tell that anything was wrong with him.

Your eyes came to rest on a small car plushy that you had on one of your bookshelves. Every time that Kenma had come over to your house and sat on your bed, playing video games while you studied, he'd commented on how cute the plushy was. You didn't have any need for it, so you plucked it off the shelf before putting on some sneakers and leaving your house to walk to Kenma's.

When you arrived at his front door, you knocked and waited for an answer. He eventually made his way to the door and opened it, looking at you with a pair of blank, brown eyes. His expression softened slightly when he saw you, and a small but weak smile appeared on his lips.

"Oh, (f/n), do you need something?" he asked quietly, taking his earbuds out of his ears and shoving them into the pocket of his Nekoma sweatpants with his gaming device.

"I heard from Tetsurou that you were feeling down in the dumps, so I brought you something," you told him, giving him a gentle smile even though the feeling of depression inside of you felt like an anchor dragging you down. You handed the cat plushy to him, feeling warmth when he smiled and accepted your gift.

"Are you sure you don't want this?" he asked and looked back up at you.

You nodded confidently. "Keep it."

As he watched you, you suddenly felt an overwhelming sensation of warmth fill your entire body. You felt like... like you were in love, and it was strange and foreign to you compared to the cold, depressed state you'd been in. Since the feeling wasn't coming from you, it must've been coming from your soulmate.

Just as you thought this, you thought about the way that Kenma was looking at you, and you could feel the overwhelming amount of love he felt towards you. This made you smile brightly and return the feeling so strongly that he sensed it too. You stepped closer to him before pulling him into a hug. He hugged you back tightly, and the two of you stayed wrapped up in each other's embrace.

You didn't need words to express your love for one another since you both knew that the feeling was mutual.
