Brushing your hair, which was another shade of gray, away from your eyes, you looked up from your book and out the window. The sky, the clouds, and everything else outside were simply shades of white and tints of black to your tired eyes. Seeing in black and white was so dull and boring, and it made you feel even more dull and boring.

Since you couldn't tell what color anything was, you questioned the color of your hair, your eyes, your skin, even your own clothes. You tried simply to wear black and white all the time since those were the only two colors you could clearly see. Maybe that's why you were somewhat of an outsider... Maybe you were just too boring for people to stand.

The simple black words on the white pages of the book were starting to wear you out, so you closed your book and groaned loudly. As you laid down on your bed with despair, you decided that it would be pointless to stay inside and fester with self-loathing.

Just because the world lacked color, it didn't mean that you couldn't still try to enjoy it. You got up from your bed and got dressed before heading down the the park a few blocks away from your house. Off in the distance, you could hear children laughing as they played, and you could smell the sweet scent of spring.

As you entered the park, you looked around at the trees and the small stands selling snacks. You saw cotton candy, but you couldn't differentiate between the colors, and you saw children run up to the stands and tug on their mother's shirt, asking for some of the fluffy treats. You smiled slightly as you watched the interactions between people.

Seeing a couple huddled closely together on a bench, cooing to one another, made you feel a pang of loneliness, though. It was lonely enough living in a world filled with dismal colors when everyone else could see an array of bright and beautiful colors, but being alone made it all the more difficult to bear.

You sighed softly and continued your walk through the park, trying to push away any negative emotions you felt. That's what you had to do everyday, but the fact that you were used to having to do it didn't make it any easier.

After a few minutes, you decided to sit down on a bench and relax for a little while. As you took in all the scenery around you, you looked at the bench across from you and at the person who was sitting there. His hair was clearly white since it stood out so brightly in your vision, but the rest of his outfit was simply a combination of grays. His head was down and his chin was resting in his hands. You examined him from where you were sitting, wondering why he seemed so down. Maybe he was lonely too...

Suddenly, he looked up, and something amazing happened as the two of you made eye contact. Different shades of different colors spilled into your vision and colored your entire surroundings. All of the colors you'd heard about you could now see, and your eyes widened in awe as you rushed to soak it all in. But you found you couldn't take your eyes off the man in front of you.

He was watching you with the same, amazed look you wore. He quickly stood up and pointed at you without uttering a word. You instinctively stood up as well, and the two of you approached each other. There was a long silence as you looked into each other's eyes before smiles broke out on your faces.

You wrapped your arms around him and hugged him tightly as he did the same to you. He was very tall, so your face was smushed into his shoulder, but you didn't care— you could tell what color his shirt was!

"Your shirt is green, and your hair is white, and your eyes are brown!" you commented as you looked at his appearance.

"And your shirt is (favorite color), and your hair is (h/c), and your eyes are (e/c)!" he responded, his own eyes full of hope.

You hugged him again before pulling away and returning your gaze to him. "I'm (l/n) (f/n)," you said with a smile.

He blushed slightly. "I'm Aone Takanobu," he responded shyly.

Now that you could see in color, it was the perfect day for a walk in the park, and the two of you continued to stroll through the park hand in hand, talking to each other and pointing out the different colors that surrounded you.
