~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~After yet another forced conversation, you sighed with dismay as you went to tell your friends the disappointing results. Nothing that the guy you'd just talked to had said had appeared on your arms.
You didn't like talking that much, and you definitely weren't a social butterfly. Your friends, however, were the complete opposite, and, having found their soulmates already, urged you to go and talk to a variety of different guys in an attempt to find your soulmate.
After a number of utter failures, your friends left you alone, seeing that they weren't really helping your situation.
You were at a party, and loud music was pumping throughout the house, making your chest vibrate uncomfortably. You made your way through the crowds of people dancing suggestively and crazily, and tried to find a place to sit where you wouldn't constantly be bumped into or grinded on. The couches were occupied by couples having make out sessions and you didn't dare to go upstairs. Instead, you sat down on a rug and whipped your phone charger out of your bag to plug it into the wall socket and charge your phone.
You were going to sit here and wait this party out. Your friends had been your ride here, and your house was too far away to walk to by yourself in the dark. It'll be over eventually.
At the other side of the house, Kenma grumbled under his breath as Kuroo tapped him on the shoulder. "Hey, get me and (girl's name) another drink, would you?" he called, raising his voice to be heard over the thumping bass. He then continued to dance with the girl he'd met at the party, earning a look of disgust from Kenma.
"If you can't walk home, I'm not carrying you," he murmured as he walked over to the kitchen and got a couple of drinks for both Kuroo and the random girl he was with. He then brought them over to the two of them before walking away again, not even bothering to listen to what Kuroo said in return.
He hated parties and he hated crowds and he hated loud music. All of those things were happening at this house and he hated existing at the moment. He'd only come because Kuroo had dragged him along in his own search for his soulmate, thinking that Kenma was going to get lucky too.
Like that's going to happen, Kenma thought with annoyance as he looked around at all of the partygoers. All he wanted was to find a quiet place to sit, so he wandered through the house. Eventually, he noticed you sitting on the floor, and his heart leapt with hope when he noticed the wall outlet next to you.
He sat down next to you, making you glance over at him for a moment. The two of you made eye contact for a split second before turning away, blushing slightly. Kenma took his charger and his PSP out of his pocket before plugging the charger into the wall and hooking it up to his portable gaming device.
As you sat just mere inches away from this random guy, you found yourself looking over at him from time to time, taking in a different part of his appearance each time. First, you'd noticed his brown, catlike eyes. Then, you'd looked at his dyed blonde hair with the brown roots. Finally, you'd gazed at his face as he watched his game intently.
He was very handsome and you wanted to say something to him, but you held your tongue and focused your attention on your phone screen. He was so enthralled by his game that he probably wouldn't appreciate it if you interrupted him.
"So you don't like parties either, do you?"
The sound of his gentle voice barely made it to your ears with the volume of the music, but you heard it, and you were glad you did.
You turned to look at him and smiled gently when you found that he was contemplating you with a soft smile on his own lips. "No, I don't. Especially not when I'm forced to go to them," you responded and rolled your eyes jokingly.
Kenma chuckled slightly, his face illuminated by the faint glow from his gaming device. "I'm glad that someone else is in the same situation as I am. My name's Kenma," he told you warmly and extended his hand towards you.
You placed your hand in his. "I'm (f/n)," you said and shook his hand. He gave your hand a squeeze before releasing it, and you blushed slightly. There was a pause in your conversation as Kenma looked down at what you thought was his gaming device for a long time.
You turned your attention down to the sleeve of your sweater, picking off stray pieces of hair and fuzz. As you did this, you noticed something black at the base of your hand, where it connected to your inner wrist. You slowly pulled up your sleeve and were surprised to see black writing that looked as if it had been inked into your skin.
"So you don't like parties either, do you?" it read. It took your brain a while to process what was going on, and by the time you looked up at Kenma, he was already watching you with a look of awe on his face.
You wrapped your arms around each other, and you rested your head on his shoulder as he hugged you, not saying a word. You both were silent as you hugged, simply enjoying each other's warmth. Kenma eventually turned off his game and devoted his full attention to you as you moved closer to him held onto him.
Once the shock of finding your soulmate had settled down, you spoke softly to him, eager to know more about him and share more about yourself with him. As the party raged on in the house, you and Kenma found solace in each other, completely forgetting what was going on around you.
While you were glad that you'd found your soulmate, you were also satisfied with the fact that you hadn't stumbled over your words when speaking to him for the first time. These words tattooed on your arm were what you were going to have to remember him by in his times of absence, and you hoped that he thought of you whenever he looked down at his own arm.
