It was totally normal not to hear much from your boyfriend for a few days. He was a busy guy—you knew that very well—and you had a lot on your plate too. The two of you had worked hard to solidify your relationship for the past years that you'd been together, so neither of you minded going a few days without talking as long as you gave each other some notice.

Iwaizumi had told you that he wasn't going to be able to call you or text you as often for a couple of days, but it had been nearly a week and you hadn't gotten much back from him other than a couple of texts and one phone call he was able to make on his way to work.

It wasn't easy being in a long distance relationship even though the two of you were merely an hour's drive away from each other, attending different universities. When school got tougher and tougher on you, you just had to remind yourself that it was your last year and you were almost done. Lately, things had been stressing you out more than usual, and not having Iwaizumi around to comfort you wasn't entirely helping too much either, but he had work, school, and volleyball to deal with, so his schedule was packed.

Every once in a while, you'd try to convince him to take a day off so the two of you could spend it together, but he'd always deny, saying that the money he was getting from work was very important to him. You knew how much he cared about his family and his education, so you accepted the fact that his source of income was his primary concern at the moment. Still, not hearing much from him or getting to spend as much time with him was starting to slowly take a toll on you.

After a long and strenuous day of classes, you couldn't wait to go back to your cozy apartment and reward yourself with some well deserved rest. When you pulled your phone out of your bag, however, your mood instantly lifted when you read a text message that your boyfriend had just sent you. He knew your class schedule by heart and made sure not to text you during your lectures since he knew you'd get distracted.

Hey babe I don't have work tonight so I'm heading over to you. See you in an hour. Love you.

That message, followed by kissy face emojis, made you blush profusely and put some pep in your step as you made your way back home so you could prepare for his arrival.

A little over an hour later, when you'd just finished making dinner for the two of you, you heard a knock at your door. Your heart jumped at the sound and your rushed to open the door, revealing your handsome boyfriend. Slung over his shoulder was his trusty duffel bag, and in his hand was a bag that sported the name of your favorite bakery.

"Hajime!" you squeaked with excitement as you threw your arms around his neck and gave him a tight hug.

"I'm so happy to see you, (f/n). It's been one hell of a week," he mumbled as he wrapped his arm around you and pressed gentle kisses against the side of your head before nestling his face in your (h/l), (h/c) locks of hair.

You pulled away from him slightly to press your lips against his before saying, "Well, come on in and put your stuff down. I made dinner for us."

You saw a relieved smile appear on his weary features as he gave you another kiss. "Thank you, baby."

You shut the door as he entered and made himself at home as he'd done many times before. As you went back into the kitchen and started serving the delicious food, Iwaizumi put the bag he'd brought from the bakery on the counter and checked the pocket of his jacket, unbeknownst to you.

"Hajime, I feel like you're going to work yourself into the ground with all that you have going on. I'm worried about you," you commented, setting a plate of food down for him on the small dining table.

"I know, I know. But the reasons I have for why I'm working are what keep me going. I'm fine, (f/n)," he answered diligently, as always.

"Babe, I'm sure your family would understand if you needed a break from work." You set your plate of food down at the seat across from where you'd placed his plate and rested your arms on the back of the chair as you watched him with your (e/c) gaze.

"I'm not just doing this for my family, you know," he spoke as your walked over to him again and started to lead him over to the table. His words made you stop, though, and look at him with curiosity.

The firm look in his eyes made you open your mouth to question him, "Who else would you be working for...?"

"You and the future I see myself having with you."

Your eyes widened when you noticed him slowly move away from you slightly so that he could lower himself to the ground on one knee. A small gasp left your mouth as your hands flew to cover it upon watching him retrieve a glittering ring from his pocket.

"I don't know if you can tell, but I love you so much and I want to spend my life with you. Since the first day I met you and fell in love with you, I knew that you were the only one for me. So this is why I've gone long periods of time without talking to you or seeing you. I've been working so that I can marry you."

Your shock quickly gave way to a happiness that made your eyes fill up with tears as you looked down at him. "Hajime..."

"Will you marry me, (l/n) (f/n)?" he asked, his eyes filled with hope.

All you could do was nod and use your right hand to wipe away your tears as he placed the ring on your left ring finger before ensconcing you in his warm embrace. You could hardly believe what was happening as you held onto him tightly, sniffling and crying tears of joy.

"I love you so much," you said softly as you took your face out of his shoulder so you could look at him.

"I love you too." He pressed a kiss against your lips. "Obviously." You both chuckled before sharing another kiss.

When you broke away, Iwaizumi went to retrieve the bag from the bakery before joining you at the table to eat dinner with you.

"I went to our favorite bakery on the way here and told them that I was going to propose to you. They gave me the dessert I ordered for free," he stated, smiling at you as he handed you a box.

Curious as to what he'd gotten you, you opened the box to find your favorite dessert as well as a picture on the inside of the lid of you and Iwaizumi that you'd taken on your first date, which, of course, had been at the bakery.

Looking at the picture, the dessert, the sparkling ring on your finger, and finally at your new fiancée who had a gentle smile on his face made your entire being fill with warmth.

Working as hard and as long as he had was strenuous, to say the least, but seeing how elated you were made him relieved that all of his hard work had finally paid off.
