You sat down in the lush, green grass and put your face in your hands. Tears slid down your cheeks as you cried quietly, only to be licked away by the gentle breeze flowing through the forest. A hand was rubbing your back and running through your (h/l) (h/c) strands of hair gently.

"It's okay, (f/n), we'll find a way to be together," your lover spoke softly, his tender voice making your heart melt.

You shook your head. "How am I supposed to feel safe being with you when none of the fairies in your kingdom like me? I don't want to be a target of their hatred or make them hate you for loving me. I'm just some human scum to them..." you whimpered.

"It doesn't matter what they think about you. I love you and they're not going to make me leave you," he argued.

"It does matter! You're their king and they're going to hate you if you choose to be with someone they hate!" you growled at him. You furiously wiped away your tears and stood up.

"Why are you leaving me?" he called after you as you started to walk away.

You stopped in your tracks and turned back around to face him. "I'm not leaving you." You wrapped your arms around him and gave him a hug. "It's just that... I love you so much, but I don't want to cause problems for you because your kingdom doesn't like me, Kenma."

Your lover paused for a moment, his brown eyes closed as he tried to think of a compromise, or anything he could use to convince the fairies in his kingdom to let the two of you be together. When the two of you let go of each other, you looked into his eyes hopefully.

"I'll talk with the fairies about it and see if I can do anything to convince them. But please come back here later tonight so I can talk to you," he pleaded, begging you with both his gentle voice and his brown eyes.

"I will," you promised. You exchanged a parting kiss with him before heading back home, leaving him to use whatever magic he could to persuade the fairies to accept you.

As each hour passed, you couldn't keep your attention off the clock. Since you were so anxious, you decided to take your mind off the situation by focusing on the good times that you and Kenma had spent together.

You'd first met him when you'd been going for a walk through the forest and you'd gotten lost. You'd just moved into an apartment in a peaceful area, and you hadn't known the forest well, so you'd quickly gotten lost. At first, you hadn't noticed Kenma. In fact, you'd thought he was a firefly and tried to swat him.

When you'd realized that there was a small person attached to the glowing wings you'd seen, however, you'd quickly apologized and allowed him to sit on your shoulder. He'd carefully given you directions to get out of the forest, and you'd enjoyed his company as well as his help.

After that first encounter, you'd gone looking for him multiple times, and he'd even paid you a few visits, making himself tiny enough to sit on your bedside table or big enough to lie down in bed with you and cuddle. It hadn't taken him long to fall in love with you. You were beautiful and loving, and he didn't even care about the species difference between the two of you.

The only thing that was keeping the two of you apart was his kingdom of fairies. They didn't like you because they didn't like humans. To them, humans thought they ruled the world and could dominate any race that was different to theirs. Even though Kenma had tried to get them to see that you were an exception and that you were truly and caring person, they weren't having it.

All you wanted was to be with him, and it was upsetting you that the other fairies wouldn't accept you.

So when the time finally arrived, you left your apartment and made your way to the forest where the two of you had planned to meet. You wanted to know what the verdict was, since your relationship was practically riding on it at this point.

You soon found him standing in a small opening, his skin glowing slightly in the darkness and his wings folded against his back, shimmering softly. "(F/n)!" he called gently when he saw you, a smile gracing his features. He started to walk towards you but both of you froze in your tracks when you heard a slow and low growl rumble from the depths of the forest.

Both of you turned towards the sound just in time to see a giant werewolf leap out from behind a tree. It tackled Kenma and began attacking him viciously, making you scream with fright. Seeing that the person you loved was in danger, you sprang into action and tackled the werewolf in return, pushing it off of Kenma. You and the werewolf rolled down a hill slightly, and you ended up slamming into a rock, making you cry out in pain.

When you and Kenma first met, he gave you a magical sword to defend yourself with, so you pulled the small holster out of your pocket, pushed a button, and stabbed the werewolf with the sword that materialized. As the beast but and scratched at you, you slashed and stabbed at it with your sword. After a long and arduous fight that Kenma tried to help you with to no avail, you managed to stab the monster in the throat and kill it.

By that time, however, you were too weak to do anything else, and you ended up passing out as Kenma scrambled to get the werewolf off of you and take care of you. The worried look on his face was the last thing you saw before you lost consciousness.

When you opened your eyes again, the first thing you saw was blinding light. You whimpered quietly as your eyes ached, and you shut them before trying to open them again. As the world around you came into focus, you saw a white ceiling and white walls. A monitor beeped constantly beside you, and you noticed that you were lying on a hospital bed, wearing only a gown.

"What...? What's going... on?" you murmured as you looked around the room only to be startled by a few people standing around. None of them were doctors, so you wondered what they were doing in your room. A familiar face stood out to you soon enough, and you felt a wave of relief wash over you.

Kenma was sitting closest to you, holding your hand gently in his and rubbing the back of it with his thumb. When you made eye contact with him, he smiled softly at you before planting a courteous kiss on the back of your hand. "A werewolf attacked me and you saved me, but you were more severely injured than I was," he explained.

You noticed that he was wearing a hoodie and a pair of jeans, and you gathered that he was probably trying to hide his true appearance. "Are you okay...?" you asked slowly, your mind groggy with the painkillers.

"I'm fine. But you're going to need to stay here for a few days," he answered. Your heart dropped in disappointment, and he clearly noticed how upset you were. "It's okay, though," he assured you and kissed your cheek, "because I have some good news for you."

"What?" you wondered, closing your eyes slightly as he stroked your cheek with his soft fingers.

"After seeing the way you defended me against that werewolf, the fairies made the decision to accept you and to let us be together," he announced, a bright smile on his face.

You felt your heart flutter with joy as you beamed at him. He moved down towards you and gave you a few kisses, making your heart beat faster, and the monitor next to you beep at a quicker pace.

"I love you so much, Kenma," you told him as you wrapped your arm around him tentatively and gave him as good of a hug as you could give in the state you were in. You looked over his shoulder at the other fairies who were standing in the room. "Thank you."

"No," one of them said with a smile, "thank you."
