Scott's POV
Honestly, I didn't expected Avi or Kevin to not have their parents. They are so sweet and protective and I thought they learned from their folks. It's a good thing they didn't end up as a serial killer thought.
"I'm sorry about your family. I feel bad cause I think I'm the only one with biological parents. I'm really sorry." I apologized.
"It's okay man. All of us have things that the others don't and that's perfectly fine. You don't have to say sorry." Kevin assured me.
"Speaking of you parents, how did you end up here? You seem perfectly fine and happy." Avi asked.
"Oh, I was just in jail a bunch of times." I answered casually.
"WHAT?!" Kevin, Avi, and Kirstie yelled. Mitch just widened his eyes a bit.
"What did you do?"
"Who'd you kill?"
"Why'd you do it?"
Everyone drenched me in questions but I saw Mitch about to say something so I tried to block everyone out.
"Are you even worth it?" I heard Mitch whisper that so quiet that I could barely hear it but I did. I'm so confused at that statement.
"Guys, relax. I just stole."
"What did you steal to cause you to spend time in jail?" Avi asked, still shocked.
"I just stole some medicine my family couldn't afford and some valuable jewelry from my old neighbor to sell to get money."
"Why'd you steal the medicine?"
"My family has a long line of mental illnesses and diseases. My mom was diagnosed with leukemia two years ago. Years before that, we figured out that my sister had depression. The only people in my family who weren't sick was my dad and I. We didn't have enough money to pay for the medications so my dad works double and I steal without anyone knowing. I've been arrested millions of times and only spent time in jail two or three times. Sure my dad found out and got really mad but he never knew the reason because he never remembers from all the things going on in our lives. That's how I get away with things."
"Why do you steal the medicine when you steal the jewelry for money?"
"That money is for food and clothes I buy for them. The left over money I get is for this apartment and that crappy car. Sure I'm sixteen but I'm tall enough to get through the police for driving that thing and living in here. Plus, I turn seventeen in two months."
Ooh, Mitch will be turning sixteen in three weeks. Now you can ask him out for his present from you. I'm sure he'll love it.
"He doesn't like me and I have a boyfriend. Sure I had a small crush on him when we first met but then I remembered Alex. Alex is a good guy and I don't want to jeopardize that with some silly crush I have on the kid."
"Do you like being a thief?"
"Sometimes, when I get away with it. But I'm always disappointed in myself for doing it. I want to stop but it's addicting."
"Is Alex helping to you to stop?"
"He doesn't know I steal. All he knows is the that my family is sick and I rarely get to see my dad. That's it."
"Why don't you tell him?"
"I'm afraid that he'll hate me and we'll break up. I like him."
You like him, but you love Mitch. Right?
