Pacifica and I talk a little while longer before her parents get home. We walk downstairs and I try to look as graceful as possible. I square my shoulders and put my chin up a little, just like Pacifica said to do. I guess I pass the test for grace, but not for clothes.

"Pacifica" says Mr. Northwest.

"Yes, dad?" replies Pacifica in a fake cheerful voice.

"Get this girl a new wardrobe as soon as possible. And a stylist. Look at her hair! When was the last time she got a haircut? Last year?" Mr. and Mrs. Northwest share a snooty rich person laugh. Ha. And I thought it was just a myth.

Pacifica and I go back upstairs. She tries to lighten the mood by saying "Well, tomorrow we shop, I guess"

But it doesn't take a child of Athena to figure out that the source of her misery is her parents.
