3 new campers? A camp for Roman demigods in California? Stay out of contact with my home? Percy missing? It's all too much to process. I sit on the ground with my back against a tree and cry.
I hear footsteps. I instantly try to compose myself.
"Great news!" Says Dipper, beaming. "I won!"
His face falls. "What's wrong?" He asks, concerned.
"Er... I'm fine." I lie.
"Are you sure?" He asks skeptically.
"Yeah. Never been better." I say, forcing a smile and wiping away a stray tear.
"Well... Okay." He says reluctantly. I can tell he doesn't want to drop the subject, but at that moment, Pacifica runs from within the bushes wearing the hugest, happiest smile I've ever seen and holding a very tiny piglet.
"I named him Bacon." She tells me. "Isn't he the cutest?"
"He's adorable!" I say.
Just then, Mabel, Candy, and Grenda join the group.
"OMG PACIFICA HE'S ADORABLE!" Squeals Mabel.
"We're on break. Melody is watching our booth for us." Says Candy.
"LET'S GIVE THE PIG A MAKEOVER!" Says Grenda in her masculine voice.
"You're not laying a hand on my pig!" Snaps Pacifica.
"Okay, no need to be so rude!" She replies.
"Guys, guys. Pacifica got her pig, Dipper got us tickets to a PTV concert, and Candy, Grenda, an I successfully bedazzled 20 faces. Let's all go to the diner to celebrate!" Says Mabel to stop the arguing. Luckily, our appetites get the best of us, and we go seeking pie.
Everyone marches out of the woods, but I hold Pacifica back and tell her about my conversation with Annabeth.
"Oh my gosh," she says, "you were over here worrying about your friend while the rest of us enjoyed the cheapest carnival money can buy? That's just about the most selfless shiz ever."
"I'm just worried about Annabeth. I know Percy can take care of himself, but Annabeth loves Percy more than anything. If something happens to him... She'll blame herself. She'll give up."
"Percy will turn up. I know it. Don't worry." Says Pacifica, giving me a hug.
"Thanks Paz." I say, starting to relax a little.
She smiles, and says "Now let's go-- I'm starving!"
