A few days later, after my injuries have subsided, Pacifica and I are walking into the Mystery Shack. Like usual, I see Dipper, Mabel, Candy, Grenda, and Wendy hanging around the cash register.
Everything looks normal-- except for the fact that everyone looks tense... And William's there, too. He's the only one looking totally relaxed.
"Hey guys." I say in an attempt to make things less awkward.
"Hey." Says everyone halfheartedly, except William, who beams and yells "How's it hangin'!?"
"Sooo..." Says Pacifica.
"What's going on today?" I ask no one in particular.
"Uh, maybe we can just take it eas--" begins Dipper.
"HOW ABOUT WE GO EXPLORING IN THE WOODS?" Interrupts William in an obnoxiously loud voice.
I roll my eyes and say "Sounds good..."
After a very boring and uneventful day, we sit in the living room watching Ducktective and snarfing down popcorn.
We're halfway through an episode when William abruptly stands up and exclaims "I have to go home now! See you guys tomorrow!"
As quickly as he'd stood up, he walks out the door.
"That guy's weird. I don't trust him. He's hiding something, and I'm going to find out what..." Says Dipper. "Just... Not tonight." He adds, walking to his room.
A few weeks later, William seems to have gained everyone's trust... Well, everyone except Dipper's. Dipper still looks at William like he's going to pull out a gun at any moment.
It's just another boring night, just like the first day William started to follow us.
William just left, and Paz and I are about to leave. I see Dipper filling his backpack with equipment.
"Uh, hey Paz? Um, I'm going to the woods for a bit. I'll be back by midnight, okay?"
"Okay, be careful."
"Don't worry, I will."
By the time I walk into the woods, Dipper is long gone. I shrug and set off to look for him... And William. Something tells me they're meeting here.
After a half hour of walking around, I see William floating amongst the trees.
"WILLIAM!" I call. He floats down.
"Hey Carter, how's it hangin'?" He says, winking. Why he winked, I have no idea.
"Uh, what are you doing here?"
"I'm crashing here." He says, gesturing at the tree.
"Oh... You do realize Dipper's looking for you?"
"Yeah, I couldn't care less what Pinetree thinks."
"Yeah, okay..." I say, ignoring the fact that he called him Pinetree.
"Get. Away. From. Her." Says Dipper. I hadn't realized he'd been standing there.
William raises his hands in surrender.
"Listen, William," says Dipper, "There's something going on with you. I don't know what it is, but I do know one thing. I want you AWAY from my sister. I want you AWAY from my friends. And I want you AWAY FROM GRAVITY FALLS. Understand?"
William smirks and nods. "Got it." He says.
"Good. Come on, Izzy." Says Dipper, grabbing my hand. He drags me away from William.
"Can you do me a favor and stay away from him?" He says. "I don't trust him."
"Clearly." I say.
"Just... Promise you'll stay away. Please?"
I sigh. "Okay. I promise."
When we get to Pacifica's house, I climb through the window and into bed. It's not until I'm about to drift off that I realize that Dipper didn't let go of my hand until I was safely in my room.
