Pacifica and I sit behind Dipper and Kimberly on the Ferris wheel. I choke back a scream when we get to the top and Kimberly leans over to kiss Dipper on the cheek, causing him to turn to look at her and smile. His face is a bright shade of red. I’m going to make her wish she was never born.
“Thanks for standing up for me back there,” says Pacifica. As soon as I’d given her the “invitation” Kimberly’s eyes had momentarily widened. Nonetheless, she’d smirked and nodded. Then she plastered a fake smile on her face and ran to catch up to Dipper.
“No problem,” I say. It’s a good thing neither Pacifica or Dipper heard what I said to Kimberly. They’d both try to stop me.
“What did you tell her back there, anyway?” Asks Pacifica.
“Oh, nothing much, I just told her to fuck off,” I lie.
Pacifica nods.
When we get off, Pacifica checks the time on her phone. “It's 8:45,” she says. “Soos said we were leaving at midnight.”
Crap. I only have 15 minutes to make it to the back of the park. I'll have to run to make it on time.
“Hey Paz, I have to, uh, use the restroom,” I say. I know, I know. Lamest excuse ever.
“Oh, I'll come with you!” She says.
“N-no! It's fine! I'll be back soon!” I say before taking off running.
After bumping into more people than I should've, I finally make it to the aforementioned rendezvous point.
By now, the sky is an inky blue speckled with twinkling silver stars. The full moon shines above us, and the air is crisp.
Kimberly is already waiting for me in the shadows.
“Took you long enough,” she scoffs. “Were you saying your last goodbyes to your little friends?”
I roll my eyes. She’s all talk.
“Once you’re dead, I’ll be there for Dipper, just like I was in elementary school. I’ve clearly already got him wrapped around my finger. I can say goodbye to schoolwork and hello to good grades. And he’ll forget all about you,” she says with a smirk.
I clench my fists. Maybe I shouldn’t fight Kimberly. It could backfire. She could end up dead. That wouldn’t exactly be tragic, but I could get in a lot of trouble. It would be chaos. Maybe we can just try to talk things out and we’ll part on good terms--
“What about your mommy and daddy? Have you kissed them goodbye? Oh wait, you can’t. They’re both dead. Just like you’ll be in a matter of minutes.”
You know what? Who cares.
I lunge at her and punch her squarely in the jaw with my right fist, then in the mouth with my left. Pure adrenaline courses through my veins. She falls and lands on her ass. She slowly brings a finger to her bottom lip. She looks ather fingertip, now coated in glistening scarlet blood.
I look at the residual blood on my fist and smile in satisfaction.
In a flash of black, tan, and burgundy, she jumps back up and connects her knee to my stomach.
My breath is momentarily knocked out of me. My hands fly to the place where she kneed me. I gasp for air and when my lungs are filled, I yell in anger and wrap my hands around her neck. Let’s see how she likes not being able to breathe.
She’s struggling, clawing at my hands with her manicured fingers. Just when I think she’s going to give out, she brings her hands to the back of my head and forces our heads together. This time, I fall to the floor. I land on my side. Kimberly’s about to step on me when I roundhouse kick at the backs of her knees.
