Epilogue

I look at the digital clock in front of me and cringe slightly. 5pm already. I rub my temples and sigh. I'm about to pick up my pencil to resume my science homework, but a sharp tap at my window stops me. Seconds later, a second tap is heard, then a third.

I stand from my desk chair and stretch. I've been sitting for hours. I step over Pacifica, who's on the floor doing her nails. From the window, I see Dipper holding a basket and a handful of pebbles.

“Come down!” He calls.

“Give me a sec!” I reply.

I turn to Pacifica. “Hey Paz, I'm going out. I'll be back soon, I promise.”

I really shouldn't make promises I can't keep...

The date starts off well.

“Happy anniversary, Izzy,” says Dipper, kissing my cheek.

“Happy anniversary,” I reply with a grin. To demigods, anniversaries are special. Not only do they mark one more year of being with your significant other, but they also mark another year of being alive together.

We walk to our spot in the woods, near the waterfall. A blanket is already spread out along with pillows and more folded blankets. After eating our sandwiches, we pause the witty flirting to watch the sun as it sets wrapped in blankets. My head is on Dipper's shoulder, and I'm beginning to nod off when he nudges me lightly.

“Izzy? I have to ask you something…” He says, sounding a little nervous.

“Yeah? What is it?” I say.

He puts his left hand in his pocket and turns to face me. His right hand picks up mine. We intertwine our fingers.

“Isabelle, I've known you for a long time. We've been through a lot together. We’ve been in some sticky situations with monsters, demons, gnomes, goddesses, and bloodthirsty, revenge-seeking teenage girls, but we’ve been together through most of it. Sure, there’ve been fights, arguments, and you almost killing me on several accounts, but at the end of the day we still love each other. I know we’ve only been together for a year, but it feels like longer. We’ve been there for each other for much longer.

“Remember that time we stayed in the woods and we fell asleep? I woke up before you did and I couldn’t bring myself to wake you up. I stayed there for a few minutes watching you. And honestly… it made me realize I want to wake up with you next to me every day, for the rest of my life. I know we're only seventeen, and this is super naïve, but Isabelle Adelaide Carter…” He takes his hand out of his pocket and reveals a simple silver ring with the date 11/21/15 on it.
