It is undeniably a complete rarity to stumble upon LGBT characters which are not stained with prejudiced stereotypes, and lack the proper depth that would fully realize their identity, simply who they are. Many mainstream movies and stocks of publication unfortunately succumb to this, and with that, it is already very hard to find material that properly represent this community as a whole.
When I was younger, it became evident to me that my family thought poorly of the LGBT community. I refused to share the same sentiment, because I believe that it is completely immoral to degrade someone for simply who they are. This is exactly what fuels the prejudice that is directed at this community who deserves respect just as any other person. It is completely unacceptable that anybody who doesn't fall under social 'norms' should be ostracized in such a wretched, heartless way. Maybe I'm turning my back against God whom I've been taught to follow and honor all my life, but I don't think he would like the fact that people are being cut out just because they aren't what is considered accepted my society.
It should be okay if my brother to borrow my mother's clothes. It doesn't make him evil. It doesn't immediately make him qualify as someone who identifies as another gender besides heterosexuality. That kind of thinking is absolutely unjustified.
Originally, I was afraid that I would fail to properly represent the LGBT community, but I decided that the need for more diversity in the literary world is far too great than to be scared of writing about them. It is imperative that everyone should make an effort for the day when homophobia is completely eradicated. We need a world that's more accepting, and a society that leans to grow out of its traditional ways which are inherently harmful to those who are affected by them in a far more grander scale than most people.
Any LGBT movement is nothing more than what I perceive to be the most brilliant thing ever to be conceived to generate awareness, and to elicit action from many to gain the respect the LGBT community irrevocably deserves. Hopefully these movements will extend farther and farther. Only time will tell.
