He stopped the car in front of my house.
Our hands still intertwined. He looked straight ahead at the road.
"What's on your mind?" I asked.
"Not to be cliche, but you." His eyes never left the lonely road ahead.
I chuckled, "Me? What could you possibly be thinking about that involves me?" I joked.
He looked at me straight in the eyes. Considering that it's him, it kind of creeps me out in a good kind of way. I've honestly just met him through his chilled stares, I have no clue why this one felt different.
There's this lump in my throat, and I feel the need to clear it. I felt awkward because his stare was burning me, almost to a melting point.
"You and how I don't want you to leave."
"Psh, you're just saying that." I shook my head. Daniel is a very serious person all around, but I've never seen him act this kind of serious. That is the reason why I awkwardly answered the way that I did.
"I'm serious, I want you to stay."
I looked at him. I stared right in his eyes.
His eyes had an unfamiliar glint, I've never seen it before.
It was also clear he'd never felt nor showed it before to anyone as well. As if he wasn't familiar with the action he's performing.
Does it hurt to say that I feel like he means this in a double meaning of me not leaving at this very moment, or ever leaving at all.
He shook his head and laughed.
"But I know, all good things must come to an end." He released his hand from mine and exited the vehicle.
I was left dumbfounded.
He came around my side and opened the door for me.
He held out his hand for me to take so that I can exit as well.
I took it and we made our way to my front lawn.
"Thanks for today." I said.
"Any time." He replied.
"I couldn't have finished the song without you."
"I believe in you, you could've finished the song if you were inspired." He replied with a sheepish smile.
I guess that is another tally.
"Hm, were you?" I didn't mean to ask, it just came out. I realized what I asked and now I'm awkwardly shy.
"You don't have to answer that." I said afterwards and put my head down to avoid awkward tensions.
He tilted my chin up so that our stares would meet.
"I was inspired, simply because you were there." He smiled.
"If it wasn't for you, your song would still be incomplete. So I guess thank you for being my muse, you know, for your own song and all." He laughed.
I returned the laughter.
He grabbed both of my hands and kissed the back of them.
"Chandria, you're home." My mom opened the door.
"Why hello there, young man." My mom greeted us with surprise written all over her face.
"Good evening, Mrs. Bernardo. I'm here to drop Kath off." Daniel smiled.
My mom looked at me and smiled, she smiled at him as well.
"Well I didn't mean to interrupt the goodbyes. I'll just be going." My mom was about to close the door.
