PART 29

Distraction.

I was dumbfounded after he asked me what he is to me. It was like I was celled in a secluded area for a minute before I finally got my release. I clenched my fist and tried to look calm and reserved.

"You're a friend." Taas noo kong sagot bago siya nginitian ng pagkatamis tamis. "Now, if you'll excuse me, friend, I need to go back inside." Dugtong ko pa. I saw how he gritted his teeth but I tried not to care at all. Ours were over. I keep reminding myself of that. I shouldn't feel anything for him and stop blaming myself to why this happened to us. Hindi ko na siya hinintay pang sumagot. Nilagpasan ko siya at nagtuloy tuloy sa loob.

I met some prospect clients and set meetings with them any time of the day. Doon natapos ang gabing iyon. Nawala sa utak ko si Wayne dahil sa mga taong nakausap ko. I even went home without thinking of him. Maybe, ganoon siguro talaga kung pursigido ka nang makalimot sa mapait mong nakaraan. Everything went back to normal. Hindi ko na ulit nakita si Wayne pagkatapos noong merging. I busied myself again at work. Nakikipagkita pa din naman ako sa barkada pero malimit na, lalo na at iilang beses ko na lamang nakakasama si Brooke. The last time we went out together ay noong tumawag siya sa akin pagkagaling niya sa Korea para sa trabaho niya. After that, ay palagi na siyang busy sa trabaho. Well, that's the disadvantage of being a flight attendant, I think. You get the chance to travel but it will also lessen your time to be with the people you love.

Busy pa din ako sa trabaho noong tumunog ang intercom ko.

"Ma'am, Mr. Sandoval is asking for a private meeting with you. Should I accept his request or not?" Tanong ng sekretarya ko. I just sighed irritatedly upon hearing that bastard's surname.

"Tell him to stop pestering me. I don't want to have him around. Thank you." Pagkasabi ko nun ay tinapos ko na ang usapan. I went back to the papers I needed to sign before this day ends. Hindi naman na ako kinulit ulit ni Sandoval and I thanked him somehow because of that.

Natapos ang araw pero kalahati pa lang ang natatapos kong pirmahan. Noong tinignan ko ang orasan sa relo ko ay pasado alas nuebe na ng gabi. I sighed heavily and continued working. I was too preoccupied signing some papers that I didn't hear someone knock the door.

"I like a career driven wife, but I don't want you tired like that." Halos mapatalon pa ako sa gulat noong magsalita ang isang lalake. Binabawi ko ang sinabi kong pinapasalamatan ko si Sandoval. Damn. He is is now in front of me.

"What the hell are you doing here? At papaano ka nakapasok?!" Halos umusok na ang ilong ko sa sobrang galit sa kanya. Pero ang gago, tinawanan lang ako.

"Damn. I never expected you're cuter when you get mad like that." Sagot lang niya. Padabog na akong tumayo at nilapitan siya. Mukhang nagulat naman siya sa sobrang paglapit ko. Napakagat labi pa ang loko.

"I.will.ask.you.again.Sandoval! What are you doing here at papaano ka nakapasok?!" I asked frustratedly.

"I just want to see you that's why I went inside without someone noticing me. Is it bad to miss you?" Nakanguso pa niyang sabi na para bang isa siyang batang nahuli. Napamaang ang labi ko sa narinig.

"Are you really serious?! You're flirting with me! My God. I can't believe this, you are actually flirting with your ex's bestfriend! Are you out of your mind Sandoval?" Asik ko sa kanya. Nawala bigla ang pagkaplayful niya pagkabanggit ko doon. He face me dangerously with his eyes blazing.

"Brooke is just my past now. So stop mentioning her here." Galit niyang sabi. Kumunot naman ang noo ko dahil doon bago pagak na natawa.

"God. You are impossible." Natatawa at uyam kong sagot. Umiling iling naman siya dahil sa sinabi ko. "You're dead serious." Napatanong ako pagkatapos noong makuha ko ang gusto niyang ipahiwatig. Nawala na ang ngiti ko sa labi. He snap his fingers in front of my face.

"Nakuha mo. I am dead serious with you Selena." Seryoso niyang saad. Napaatras ako pero agad niya akong nahawakan sa braso. Tumaas iyon hanggang sa hawak na niya ako sa magkabilang pisngi. Nakipagtitigan siya sa akin at doon ko nakita ang iba't ibang emosyong hindi ko mabasa. "I know this will be hard for us both. You are my ex's bestfriend and I know how dear she is to you. But damn, I just can't help not to fall for you, hard and fast. I never wanted your guts the first time we've met. But when I saw your determination and passion on your job, I was hooked by you. I've never seen a woman as determined and focused as you. I've been with different women before but this is the first time that I went crazy over a girl. Well, Brooke is another story. She's different with you. She's happy go lucky and always careless." Mahabang paliwanag niya na nagpasinghap sa akin. This can't be happening. Sumakit ang ulo ko bigla. "Listen to me Selena. I didn't expect this to happen too. It was all a game to me. I just wanted to annoy you. I just want to merge my company but I end up falling for my own game." Lumayo ako sa kanya pagkatapos niyang aminin lahat sa akin. He fell for me? That was the biggest joke I have ever heard. Sa papaanong paraan nangyari iyon?! Even his explanations weren't enough to make me believe him. And even if it is really true, I will never like him even an inch. He is the very reason behind Brooke's biggest heartbreak. I may not have been there with her when this Sandoval left her with another girl, but I am pretty sure, this guy broke my bestfriend's heart real hard. But I realized something in between his words. Oh God. Nanlaki ang mga mata ko.

"Stop. This is not a good joke. Sandoval. You are still hang up with my bestfriend. That's the truth. And you want to prove something out on yourself. You want to fall in love again just so you can finally let go of her memories with you. When in the first place, you were the one who broke up with her! Huh. I can't believe you are using me for some distractions. If you want her, still. Bakit hindi mo siya balikan? For pete's sake!" Hindi makapaniwala kong sabi sa kanya. Tulala siyang nakatingin sa akin at di malaman ang isasagot. Maybe I got him there. That he is still in love with Brooke. I snapped at him. Doon lamang siya napabalik sa katinuan. "Look, you don't want me. You just want to be with me so you can see Brooke. You are funny Dylan Sandoval. Why did you leave my bestfriend nga ba eh mahal mo naman pala?" Natatawa kong sabi pero agad iyong nawala noong siya naman ang magtanong sa akin.

"Eh bakit ikaw? Bakit mo siya iniwan kung mahal mo pala? Just admit it too Selena, I was not the only one here in this room who wants distraction. So bakit hindi tayo magpagamit sa isa't isa para makalimot?" It was more of a suggestion than a command.
