Maggie couldn't continue her conversation with Adam. She doesn't know what she wanted to say exactly but she was hoping that she could fully make him understand that what they had was over. he didn't say anything to make her think he thought otherwise, but she could tell by that look in his eyes .they held a certain kind of hope and she wanted to let him know that it was going to be all for nothing.

Sally eventually came to collect Maggie, and the girls then left. Lucky for Maggie Adam left before Sally saw him. He apparently had an emergency to take care of and left in a hurry.

"So girl what you want to do, you look like you down in bloody dumps." Sally questioned Maggs.

"I'm fine Sally. I just wanted to hang out with you. I miss my best friend." Maggie avoided looking at Sally. She knew that if she did Sally would call her bluff.

The girls got into Sally's car, when Maggie's cell phone rang. Before she looked at the screen to see who it was she switched it off. Sally caught that but decided to let it go this once. She knew it probably had something to do with Jason's mother and sister arriving unannounced at the house. She knew Jason sister was not the problem so that only left one other person, Abela.

One look at that women and sally could tell she was the definition of trouble. There were many things sally was not afraid of but boyfriends' mothers like Abela was the one thing she would try to stay far away from. Maybe that's also the reason sally didn't like steady relationships.

Growing up she always thought she would be settled by this age, but life had other plans for her. She remembers that day when the principle called her to the office. She was so nervous. She was a good student, did her homework always tried to stay out of trouble. So off she went to the office.

When sally turned the corner she saw her gran waiting in the foyer.

"Hi gran, where's mum?" sally asked while looking over her grand ma shoulder.

Gran bent down to Sally's level. Gran was now sitting on her knees. Sally could see the tears in her gran's eyes. Something with in sally told her that there was something wrong.

"Gran? Please tell me what's wrong?" sally asked trying to keep her tears at bay.

"It's your mother and Colton dear. I am so sorry. They were on their way to pick you up from school, and then she was going to drop you and Colton with me like she normally does on Tuesdays. "Grand-ma sniffled.

"So where are they now? Why aren't they here? I don't understand. Why are you crying?" I kept asking her but she just shook her head.

"They're dead dear. It seems the brakes on mum's car failed and she could'nt stop in time at the railway crossing."

I just stood there, tears that were threatening to come earlier vanished almost immediately. I couldn't cry for my brother and my mum. I tried to but it wouldn't come. I felt numb. So numb I wondered at times if I had a heart attack and that I'm dead too, maybe that's why I don't feel anything. My dad died too that day my brother and mum died. He became less of a parent to me instead of trying to be both, he gave up. I could understand his pain, he lost the women he loved, but I lost my mum too. I guess I wanted us to comfort each other through loosing people we both loved but he just faded away as the days faded without mum and Colton.

I fended for myself for so many years. It was me for so long. I still find it difficult when I try to think of falling in love and sharing everything with that one person. I was afraid that if I committed myself to that one person fate would take them away from me like it did with my brother and mum.
