Chapter 34
Adam.
I went back to doing what I normally did just to pass the time, it was time Maggie needed and I was going to give her that, but I also didn't want to disappear completely from her life. I continued to shower her with flowers. Just to say hey how you doing or I'm thinking about you and hope it all works out. Part of it was true though. And the other parts not so much.
Some days she would respond by messaging me a thanks other times not. I was hoping things would move along a lot faster but the slow pace just made me realize that in the end I was going to have her regardless.
I began building a house off the coast of Cape Town. It wasn't a huge house. But it was homey. Those were the things Maggie always talked about. How she would want a suitable house to raise kids but it need 'not be expensive as long as it was homey. Yes I was whipped for this girl, but after twelve years of trying to forget her, I still couldn't, so it was clear we were made for each other.
I wanted her opinion though, I just had to figure out how I was going to convince her to see me, even though she texted me a few times she was still weary of meeting me and I haven't the faintest clue as to why.
I spent more time in Cape Town than I did Johannesburg; I wanted to move my whole life here. I have been investing in a few businesses here and there just to keep busy. I was flying my mother down this weekend to show her the house, after the death my father or sperm donor as I like to call him, mum and I became close again, I haven't told her I have been seeing Maggie. I was not about to loose Maggie for a second time; it just was not going too happened. She was going to apart of my future whether mum approved or not.
I felt happy. I didn't have the girl of my dreams in my arms yet but I was happy, things were falling into place. I also did some research about having my daughters body moved here. It was too far to go back to Johannesburg to visit her grave. Surely Maggie would appreciate that, but it was a decision we both would have to make one day.
"So happy you could make it mum" I greeted her with a kiss on her cheek.
"It so lovely and warm here, son and I'm famished, I haven't had time to eat. I was looking over those samples of linens you sent me for the new house. I suppose I got lost." She half hugged me with one arm whilst wiping her forehead with the other because of the intense heat we were in.
"Shall we have a bite to eat here or would your rather get something at the suite, it gives you time to freshen up while we wait for the order to be delivered?" I pointed to the black Lexus waiting at the end of the tar mat.
"I suppose a shower would do, even though I flew two hours. This heat makes me feel like I came from halfway across the world. How do you manage son?" she asked as she gently slid into the back seat of the car before it took off in the direction of the hotel.
"You'll get use to it mum, it's not so bad, at least where we going there's a breeze. So it's rarely just heat, you forget Johannesburg is the same mum ... (he turned too smile at her)...besides it doesn't get so humid here, like it does back home." He turned up the air con.
The drive to the hotel was a little nerve wrecking and Adams mother could tell something was bothering him, but until he actually said something to her, she knew she couldn't just meddle like most mums would do.
