Chapter 12

Linc walked in the diner, a lot of people where already there. No one would suspect that something bad was about to happen.

Einstein told him that he was going to give five bags to Mozart for a big client. Of course he already saw Einstien, he didn't expect her to be so young.

And she's not that crazy. She talks normal and even think normal.

Linc sat down at the table on the far corner. Clutching the black duffel bag closer to him. Polly didn't see him, maybe partly because he was wearing dark sunglasses and blue Yankees cap.

"Hey, rookie." a deep voice called out, he turned around and saw a big bulk of man. He already saw this guy.

This is Mozart.

"You have the goodies?" he asked. Linc nodded and placed it above the table, "Einstein will be proud of you." he said.

In the distance, Alice watched the two guys converse. It didn't took her long to recognize the other guy, it was Linc for sure. The blue Yankees cap was a dead giveaway. She gave him that hat during the Christmas Party around fifth grade.

Alice pulled out her phone and took snapshots of him and the guy, when Danny noticed what she was doing he frowned and turned to the direction,

"What are you doing?" Danny asked.

"Nothing. Just taking a picture of the baby right there." Alice said and pointed at the booth next to Linc's.

Sure enough, there was a big family eating pies. Danny raised an eyebrow but continued to eat his sausages.

Alice settled to eat bacon and eggs, she didn't believe that it was a breakfast food.

Linc looked around and felt the color from his face drain. There, only a few feet away is Alice with Danny. Mozart was telling Linc how long it took him to earn his name, when he noticed that the rookie was not paying attention to him.

When Mozart turned his head, he saw a couple eating peacefully, "That you're girl, rookie?" Mozart asked.

Linc broke out of his trance and shook his head to Mozart, "No, not my girl. My girl left me." he said and sighed, "Is that all you need? I need to go home."

"Why?"

"I need to pick up my tux and all those things for prom." Linc managed to ask Clarisse, a girl that usually hangs out at the library. No way was he going to the prom alone. Not because Jane left him, he would mope around and think it's the end of the world.

If Jane managed to snatch Wesley, Linc was also capable of snatching someone. Clarisse is a smart girl and she knew that people could care less who she goes out with.

He even met Clarisse's parents to ask permission. They were both happy to let Clarrise go and let her have fun.

"Ah, high school. I remember when I was in high school, my prom date was a hottie. Got flaming red hair and pale skin." Mozart said and pulled out his wallet, "Got married to her five years later with a baby on the way."

Linc grinned and looked at the family portrait, a big bulky man with thick black hair has his arms around a girl with flaming red hair and bright blue eyes that reminded him of Jane. In the woman's arm cradled a baby.

"What's the baby's name?" Linc asked.

"We still call her baby, Frieda said that someone special will come along and name the baby." Mozart shrugged.

"Maybe you should call her Alice." Linc suggested, "She's a really great girl and she'll love everyone."

Mozart looked at Linc for a moment and smiled, he didn't know what happend to the boy and he decided to be with the bad group of people. But when he looked at those eyes, he was sure that pure innocence was behind it.

"Maybe I will." Mozart said and looked at the girl Linc was looking at, "Is her name Alice?"

Linc nodded, he knew that he was bringing Alice in danger by telling her name to Mozart. But seeing her with Daniel, smiling and looking hopelessly in love with him was making Linc sad and lonely.

He doesn't usually feel like that whenever they were all together. He had Jane that time. But Jane was not beside him anymore, she could be in Wesley's strong arms.

He remembered when Wesley looked at him and asked for permission. He got to admit, the guy was respectful for that action. He knew that Jane and him goes way back and a relationship like that was hard to throw away.

But Jane was a lost cause. Linc loved her but there was nothing more he could do. He hurt Jane and he hated it. But if he told Jane the name of their leader, it could get Jane and a lot of his friends in grave danger.

"Well, I would love to chat more and ask you about your life, but Einstein should be calling us any minute. I need to get this package to Pennsylvania by tomorrow afternoon." Mozart said and stood up.

Linc just nodded and stood up from his table, he placed a ten on it and placed a few quarters for Polly.

Mozart walked out of the small diner with the black duffel bag slung around his body, Linc watched the big guy blend to the night.

Linc didn't know what story Mozart held, but he looked like a nice guy. He walked to his house and saw the tux was already there. Hanging by his closet, a black suit in a plastic cover.

He frowned and went to ask his mom, but he saw the note by the suit.

Jane dropped this off for you. Said you might forget. -Mom

Linc was smiling like a fool when he got to bed.

Alice drove Danny back to his house, not saying a word. They just let the low music from her radio drown the silence. But truthfully, she was afraid that if she said something it will be only to convince Danny to just let people tell him.

Or worse, she might force Danny to remember everything, which is near to impossible.

Brain is a complex organ. Most especially memories. There are only a few cases that can make Alice hopeful.

Alice parked her car on the driveway and got out, escorting Danny to his door. A glum look was evident on her face, she couldn't help but feel upset.

"I know you're upset," Danny started, "but I want you to be happy. I think you deserve someone better than me."

"There's no one better than you, Danny." Alice said and ran her hands through her dark blonde hair, "Look, to show you I'm not upset. We can still hang out, maybe as friends and do friends stuff." she said and added a cheeky smile.

Danny saw through the false mask she has on, "Yeah, sure." he said and sighed, "We'll do that."

Alice reached up and ruffled his hair, a gesture she tends to do to cheer him up, "Your hair's getting longer, we could go to a hair salon next time. I'll also get a haircut or something." she said.

A faint smile graced his lips, "When will that happen?" he asked.

"Maybe tomorrow? Though I still need to go to school." she said.

"Why?"

"I'm tutoring some freshmen Mr. Wickerby is about to fail." she said and sighed, "It's coming along, they're really fast learner."

"Maybe because they have a really great tutor." Danny said and grinned at Alice's pink cheeks.

After a few more minutes of awkward silence, Alice sighed, "I should be going now. I'll see you tomorrow." she said and walked to her car.

As Alice walk away, Danny wished she would turn around and just give her a simple peck. And the closer Alice gets to her car, the more she wish that Danny would call her name and she will run fast back into him.

But no one made a move.

~~~
Aww. It's so sad. There's a rough patch on Danny and Alice's future.
Chapter 13 will be about Jane, Wesley and Linc. :)
Song on the side slightly fits on the chapter. Big fan of Jason Mraz. :D
