Chapter 24

Alice raised her fist and knocked on the door, she knew it was a really risky move but she would be just downright rude of she didn't inform Danny about her sudden vacation. Sure she already cut all ties with him, but he's been trying to get to her for the past days that she pushed him away.

The door opened and a dishevelled Danny surprised her. Dark circles rimmed around his soft brown eyes and his hair sticks up in all direction.

I did this to him.

She thought.

"Alice." he breathed out after a long silence, it was like a dream. Her coming over, "You're here."

"Yeah." she whispered and hung her head low, that's when Danny noticed the duffel bag hanging on her shoulder.

"You're leaving?" he asked, panic evident on his tone.

"I need to leave." she replied and looked back to his eyes, she can see the desperation on his eyes, "Just a couple of weeks, maybe for the rest of summer. I just need a place to think."

Danny understood that what's happening to her is really stressful. But he didn't want Alice to leave, he wants to be there when she needs to think, because he wants to understand her, to be with her.

"Where are you going?" Danny asked.

"A place of a relative." she answered vaguely, she turned behind her and saw Teddy banging his head on the beat of a music while trying to air guitar.

"Will you come back?" he asked hopefully.

"Yeah, I'll be back." she said, replaying her promise to her father. She had a slightest idea on why her father acted like that. She made researches about it and she just needs confirmation.

Danny didn't know what to say now. He didn't want to say goodbye because he was sure that he'll see Alice again, he'll even try to get her back.

"I need to go now." Alice said and held out a hand, "Goodbye, Daniel."

He forced himself to grasp her hand and give it a shake, but he didn't said anything.

She felt bad that Danny didn't told her to stay, to just say to her that he wants her to be by his side.

But they were both broken now. Scales are equal, saying that each of them has a damaged part and they both needed the time to heal. No one knows how long, but they were both sure that time heals all wounds.

As Alice climb inside the car and fasten her seatbelt, she caught herself wishing for Danny to just run up to them and do something, anything.

While Danny stood there at the doorway, trying his best to stop the tears that threatened to fall, hoping that Alice just go out of the car again and run up to him and do something. Anything.

But neither did anything at all.

Teddy glanced at his sister one more time and sighed, she's been silent since the ride and he's starting to get bored. Plus, he didn't like it when she's all quiet and broody.

"If you don't talk to me or do something or tell something, I'll get really sleepy and we'll have an accident." he joked.

Alice tensed up at the mention of accident, Teddy cursed himself for saying it, he knew about what happened to Danny and he's an idiot for mentioning it.

"What I mean is--"

"I know what you mean, Ted. It's just that I'm still not used to it." Alice cut him off and sighed loudly, "Well, I finally know what's wrong with our father."
