Chapter 4

Mr. Steele knocked at his daughter's door. But no one answered. He wanted to know her progress on the medicals. He creaked the door open and saw it was empty.

He walked to her laptop and booted it, papers were scattered at her desk, he studied it and saw it was his reports and findings. He was proud of her daughter, he taught her well and she was really strong.

The laptop showed him that she was still down to three, but she was having doubts on the second one.

Tutties.

Tutties wasn't that known in their town, but it contained the same elements with his theory. He printed the discoveries on Tutties. His medical team didn't submit this name to him and he needed them to research on it.

He closed Alice's laptop and walked to the door, when he noticed something on her table. Along with the stack of papers.

He looked at it and saw that it was a stack of envelope from colleges.

Yale

Harvard

Massachusetts Institute of Technology

He didn't know that she applied to this universties. He took it and thought that he and her daughter would have a little talk when she arrives.

Danny fluttered his eyes open and tried to shift but he felt something tighten it's hold on his hand. He looked at who it was and saw a crown of dirty blonde hair, tossed messily at his bed. He smiled and remember that it was Alice.

He slightly shook her, Alice sat upstraight and looked at Danny with a dazed look, "Hey, you're awake." she said huskily.

"Yeah, you should head home, your parents might be looking for you." he said. She nodded and took her bag, she brought out her scrunchie and tied her hair in a messy bun.

"I'll visit again maybe on Tuesday after my class." she said and smiled at him.

"Sure. I'll be here." he said, though there was a small disappointment. He wanted her to be back tomorrow so they can talk about what he was before.

When Alice left he opened the laptop again and scrolled through the pictures, he was fondling with the files when he saw one folder.

Me and my most favorite person in the world

He opened it but it needed a password. He tried to remember but he came up with nothing.

Who is my most favorite person in the world?

he asked himself.

He typed the name Alice but it was incorrect. He tried typing his parents name but it was still incorrect. He blew out a breath and thought really hard.

ALI

, he tried and it opened. He grinned, 'Ali' was Alice's nickname.

He opened it and saw hundreds of pictures of him and Alice, there were also word documents. He looked at the pitcures, there was a picture of Alice holding a bit violet teddy bear, her background was really bright and colorful.

A carnival, maybe?

he thought, she looked really happy. He opened one word document with the name 062511, he knew it was a date. June 25, 2011. He wondered what is important with that date.

The document was his journal entry. He smiled, he wasn't that stupid at all, he kept a journal and it might help him remember things.

4:27 pm

I asked her out and she said yes. I felt so relieved and really happy that she said yes. I was really nervous when I asked her, I stuttered. She smiled at me and accepted it. I'm going to take her to the country fair and win her a bear. Maybe a blue one, that's her favorite color.

12:21 am

I just got home. I dropped her to her house and said goodnight. This is how our date has gone. I picked her up and she looked really beautiful. She was wearing jeans and a shirt. I was surprised how beautiful she is without any effort at all. I took her to the country fair and we rode different rides. I won her a bear, but not the blue one. I got her a violet one and she was really happy. We rode the ferris wheel and I KISSED HER. Yes, it was magical. That was cheesy. But it is. When we left, I dropped her to her house and kissed her again. She was blushing, and it makes me really happy. I really like her.

So this is how he felt when he was dating Alice. That was two years ago. He wondered if he was still dating Alice or are they an item now or is everything over between them.

He didn't really got a chance to ask her. He looked at the pictures, something snapped inside him and he tried his best to block out that mind-numbing pain. He knew that memories was going back in him, bits by bits.

When he closed the laptop, he thought, would he want his memories back or would he want to make new ones?

When Alice got home, she was really tired. Her mother's car wasn't there so she assumed that she have an important meeting somewhere out of town. She saw the living room lights open and she glance at her watch, it was half of ten.

She got inside and saw her Dad sitting at the couch, a stack of paper at the coffee table, "Working late, Dad?" she asked.

Edgar raised his head and looked at her daughter, she looked worn out, "Where have you been?"

"The hospital. I visited Danny, I showed him the paintings we did there last year when Mrs. Thorn was running for mayor." Edgar nodded and motioned for Alice to sit down.

"We need to talk, Ali." he said, Alice knew something was wrong. She looked at her father, "I want you to explain this." he pushed the stack of papers to her and she took it.

Dear Ms. Alice Steele,

We are congratulating you for....

She read the words of different universities, congratulating her and telling her that they would love for her to enroll on their universities.

"Where did you find these?" she asked. She knew the letter arrived but she haven't opened them, they arrived the day before the accident and she managed to get those letters drowned beneath her father's reports.

"At your desk." Edgar said, "Were you even planning on telling us?"

"I wasn't thinking, Dad." Alice said immediately, "I just tried it out and wanted to see if I was enough."

"For Christ's sake, Alice. Harvard? Yale? Massachusetts? Those are miles away from here." he exclaimed.

"I know, Dad." she said and let out a huge breath, "I don't know what came up to me. I even applied for different courses on these colleges."

"I read." he said and sighed, "Who the heck applies engineering at MIT and law for Harvard and decided to study as doctor in Yale?"

"I do." she said and smiled lightly, "I just want to prove to myself that I'm capable of being in the Ivy League."

"I'm really proud of you, Alice, I really am. But these are far too much." he said and took the papers, "But as a father, I'm leaving the decision to you. Whether you answer one, or two or all of them. I will support you."

She grinned, "Thanks, Dad." she rose and hugged him.

When they said goodnight to each other, Alice knew what her answer would be.

No. She wasn't going away, not now. Not when Danny needs her the most. She just can't abandon the person she loves while he was suffering.

Yes. She loves Danny. She knew it the day he asked her to be his girlfriend. She knew that they were going to be happy.

She knew it was naive to think that it was love already, but what better explanation could it be? She's been dating him for two-years and right now, even after what has happened to him she still wants him.

Nothing has changed when it comes to her love for him.

She wondered, will it still be the same even if he doesn't remember her?
