House of Glass

I found you lying on a cold frozen floor
Suffocating on blood, life leaving your door
I took you in and mended your broken heart
Stitch by stitch til it was no longer apart

I scraped the gravel off of your bleeding wound
Sucked the poison from your system til it no longer fumed
I took the nightmares right out of your brain
And removed betrayal til it was nothing but a stain

I kept you under surveillance for hours on end
Til your reality and dreams started to blend
Til your breathing and heart rate started to rhyme
Til that bright smile said you were fine this time

With your system not toxic, your wounds all healed
You became my world and that was sealed
A few months later, you became too strong
And started telling me this was not where you belong

You started talking of things that were once a mere dream
That this routine is boring, all abiding to one theme
You spoke of the future with your eyes a shining beam
Ignoring my words like they were a helpless scream

In no time at all, you took your keys and you left
I called the police to report of a grand theft
I put the phone down before the tone could start
How can you report someone who broke a heart

You asked me for the world, I gave you mine
You wanted to be its king, I said its fine
But you wore my crown and sat on my majestic throne
You took everything from me that I claimed my own

You took my whole world then locked me outside
Took off your mask, revealed the face you tried to hide
Instead of my angel, I saw a devil in disguise
Horns on your forehead and fire in your eyes

And before I could speak or even learn to shout
You left my world hollow, drowning in doubt
What have I done to deserve this mess?
What have I done to deserve this stress?

All I did was lend a hand to a soul that seemed so broken
But ironically I was hurt by the words you left unspoken
The words of betrayal, sharper than a knife
That cut deep in my flesh and ALMOST claimed my life

So now I'm here, my lesson learned
My heart shattered, my hands burned
Burned because of the love I gave
When in return you were digging my grave

Burned because of the kindness I showed
When in return you stabbed then away you rode
Away from the remains of ashes and rust
What was once my life is now just dust

What was once an empire is now on the ground
The ground that people step on round after round
My lesson is learned; never help another
Doesn't matter if it's a stranger or a brother

Because at first you see a creature that's  weak
But then they get loud when they learn how to speak
Their tender nails soon turn into claws
While their silent mouths soon turn into deadly jaws

Their soft loving words turn into guns
And when the shot's fired, it kills and it stuns
Then they leave you dying, blood gushing out your veins
You lie helpless and broken, tied down with chains

Because people seem to feed on the kind
That's why I'm done being so blind
Hurt me once, I might let it pass
But try it again and I'll shatter your heart of glass
