I turned my back on all those who really did care
I put up walls around me and I wasn't even aware

I didn't question your motives- didn't even try
So when everyone left, I couldn't ask why
They all left, they stopped returning my calls
Or maybe there's no service behind these castle walls
That's when I realized that counterfeit love only runs skin deep
Only then did I know that you weren't mine to keep
That's when I knew that I needed to break out of this hole
I needed to break free of this damsel-in-distress role
I needed to break free, run away to another place
Disappear to somewhere no one knows my face
It was for the best because I'm happy and whole now
I don't have to give in to your command, be your slave or bow
I found myself and it was the best thing I did
