I had the dream every night. I would wake up, sweating and trying to catch my breath. Rosie was worried, but she had come to expect the same thing to happen every night. I didn't tell my parents about them. But I did try to ask them why the were acting the way they were. But that didn't go well.

"Mom, dad? What is going on?" I asked as we sat down for breakfast one morning. It had been three days after we heard the howling of the werewolf pack.

My parents looked at each other for a moment before they turned back to me and my dad spoke. "It's nothing, Sammie. Just some wanderers," he explained.

I didn't believe that for one minute. And he could tell. He sighed. "Sammie, really. Relax. It's nothing. Everything's alright. Just be careful, okay? Stay on the land. Don't go into the woods," he commanded in a stern voice.

"But why?" I couldn't help but ask as soon as he finished.

This time, my mother spoke. "Sammie, listen to your father. Everything is going to be alright, but you must listen. Follow our instructions."

"But why?!" I yelled. I couldn't help it. It was that feeling in me. It was killing me, driving me insane.

It surprised my parents just as much as my dad yelling at me had. We never yelled. Our family didn't fight much at all. We never had reason to. We were very close. We were all we had. Well, at least, they were all I had. I don't know about them, but they didn't leave often so still...

"Samantha, it is nothing of your concern. You will obey us and stay away from the woods. Do you understand?" My dad asked. My eyes widened slightly. His eyes glowed menacingly and he had his teeth clenched. It scared me.

I slowly got up and backed away with fear in my eyes. My mom looked down at her husband in sadness but she didn't stop him. But my father noticed. He realized what he did, and he stood up to stop me. "Samantha..."

But I was already gone. I had run up the stairs to my bedroom. Rosie dashed in after me, and I slammed and locked the door. I backed away from the door and cried.

I shuddered at the memory. I didn't ask my parents anything about it after that. Heck, I barely spoke to them at all anymore. I only ate alone in my room, I avoided contact with them, and I didn't answer them when they came to my door to speak with me, usually being my mom.

Rosie stayed with me twenty four/seven. She never left my side. She was afraid to. She was so worried about me, both because of my parents' and I's behavior and my dreams that woke me every night.

The werewolf pack never howled again, so I assumed that they were gone. However, I still felt the pull that drew me towards the woods. But I didn't go. I needed to figure it out first. Or at least, figure out a little bit more.

But how was I supposed to do that? My parents wouldn't tell me, my dreams hadn't explained anything, and there was no one else that could tell me.

Finally, I made a decision. It could hurt me, but it was the only way. I had to tell my parents about the dream. There were three things that could happen. My parents could get extremely mad and protective and think I was crazy. They could understand and open up, telling me what I needed to know. Or they could act like there was nothing wrong and like they didn't know anything.

Let's hope for the second one.

I took a deep breath before I slowly opened my bedroom door. Rosie's head jerked up to look at me from her spot on my bed. I gestured for her to follow me, which she jumped off my bed and obeyed.

I stepped lightly on the stairs and made my way to the living room where my parents were watching television. "Mom, dad?"

My parents' heads shot up to look in my direction in surprise. "Sammie?" My mom asked as she stared at me in disbelief.

I slowly made my way over to sit next to my mom on one couch while my dad sat on the other. "I need to tell you about something," I said. My parents leaned forward slightly as they listened intently. I explained to them the dreams I had every night and the pull I felt towards the woods and the howling werewolf pack.

After I finished, we sat there in silence for a few minutes. No one spoke a word. No one made any movement. No one made a single noise; I could barely even hear our breathing, even with my super werewolf hearing.

Finally, my dad broke the silence. "Sara..." He looked at my mom with worry. She returned his look. Her eyes were filled with pain though. My dad sighed and turned to me. "Samantha, I'm sorry, but you are not allowed to leave this house. You are to forget about these ridiculous dreams and this...pull."

It hurt. They thought I was crazy. Well, that's what they wanted me to think. But I could tell. They knew something that they weren't telling me. I felt my eyes begin to tear up. "How could you lie to me? Right to my face? I know you're hiding it from me! I don't know what, but I know you are! My whole life, I have lived alone here with you two, but why? Why am I alone? Why did you leave your pack? Why won't you tell me? I'm done with all these secrets!" I screamed at my parents, standing up with my hands clenched into fists.

My parents were furious, but my dad was much, much worst than my mom. He growled at me. "Samantha-"

"No!" I yelled, cutting him off. "I'm done!" I jumped around and ran up the stairs with Rosie. My dad ran after me, but before he could reach me, I slammed my bedroom door and locked it.

"Samantha, open this door!" My dad yelled at me.

"No!" I yelled back as I grabbed a backpack.

"Samantha-" but my dad stopped banging on the door as my mom calmed him down, telling him that I just needed time to calm down. Oh, yeah. I definitely needed some time, but I wasn't going to spend it in my room.

I put my backpack, still empty on my bedpost as I got into bed with Rosie. It was still a little early but that was good. I needed to wake up in the middle of the night, so I needed as much sleep as I could get.

My parents hadn't given me the answers I had needed. So, I was going to have to figure it out on my own. I pet Rosie's head before I went to sleep, knowing that the next time I woke up, I would be leaving the only place I had ever known.
