I slung my backpack onto the bed. I didn't feel like unpacking right now. I could do that later. I quickly went around the room, seeing all that I had in there. It was pretty nice, even nicer than my own room. But I had personalized my room, so...
After I checked out the room and this Mason guy still hadn't shown up, I decided to just go downstairs. The living room seemed really nice, so I wanted to check it out.
I opened the bedroom door and walked out into the hallway. Rosie followed behind me, of course. I smiled at Rosie and flew down the three flights of stairs, but on the last flight, I tripped on the last step and fell to the bottom.
But surprisingly, it wasn't that hard. That's when I felt the movement. The slow rising and falling. And the sound. The sound of a beating drum. Well, more like a beating heart. I brought up my head to see I had landed on a guy. "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!" I tried to stand up, and he chuckled and easily stood us both up, even though I had landed on top of him. He was tall, not as tall as Alpha Drake though. He was maybe five foot six, about two inches taller than me. He had dark brown hair and icy blue eyes. He was probably around my age, maybe a little older. "I'm really sorry! I was-"
He cut me off with a laugh. "It's fine, calm down. However, you're different." I looked at him, puzzled. "I know everyone in the pack. Well, pretty much everyone in the pack knows everyone else in the pack. But I've never seen you before."
He tilted his head to the side slightly as he studied me. "Obviously, you're one of us though." On instinct, I covered my birthmark with my right hand. He chuckled again. "Why are you trying to hide it? We all have it." The guy lifted up his short left t-shirt sleeve to reveal the wolf paw birthmark, the same as mine.
"How?" I whispered. How could he have that birthmark like me?
He looked at me in disbelief. "Where have you been all your life? Haven't you learned anything with the pack? Or did your parents like hide you away until just now from the rest of the pack?" I knew the second one was supposed to be a joke, but the thing was...it really wasn't. He noticed the expression on my face. "What's wrong? Wait...did they really do that?" His eyes were wide in disbelief.
I gave him a small smile. "Well...sort of. But I don't really want to talk about it. Sorry, I really have to go. I'm supposed to be meeting someone." I looked around him, trying to see into the living room, but he blocked my view.
"Who? Maybe I can help you find them," he offered.
"Someone named Mason." He froze. Did I do something wrong? I don't know! I just said some guy's name, and this guy gets all freezy!
"Would you happen to be...Samantha Felman?"
My eyes widened in surprise. "How do all these people know my name?!"
That broke his trance. "Sorry! I didn't mean to offend you or anything. Look, how about we start over?" He smiled and held out his hand for me to shake. "Hi, I'm Mason."
I wanted to laugh, but I couldn't. I was making this one of the worst and hardest times of my life. Slowly, I raised my hand to shake his. "Samantha Felman," I whispered.
"Well, Samantha, I see that you are new to the pack, so how about I show you around?" I nodded with a smile.
Rosie whined next to me. I looked down at her. "Rosie, what's wrong?" She gave a little puppy yip. I smiled as I dug through the back pocket of my shorts to find some bacon dog treats. I held my hand out, and she ate them immediately.
Mason chuckled, "She's cute." Rosie yipped happily at the compliment, causing us both to laugh. "So...shall we?"
Mason began to lead me around the house first. Apparently, it was only the pack house. There were still several families in the pack that had their own houses in the territory. The first floor had the living room, the kitchen, the dining room, and the game room. The second floor was lined with offices and storage rooms. The third floor was for the Beta and his family with some extra spare bedrooms just in case. The fourth floor was the same as the third except that it was for the Alpha and his family. Finally, the fifth floor was for anyone in the pack who wanted to stay in the pack house. It was a really big house. And apparently, there was an elevator, so I didn't have to use the stairs all the time, but I didn't really mind.
