I growled playfully, lowering myself to the ground while keeping my rump and tail in the air, wagging happily. The bigger, darker grey wolf growled back at me as he prepared to pounce on me before he was surprised as a husky rammed into his side. He went tumbling across the ground with a surprised yelp, and the husky came to stand by my side with a growl and a lowered head.

Another grayish, silver wolf walked up to stand by the dark grey wolf. Our two pairs circled each other, growling, waiting for a chance to attack.

Finally, the dark grey wolf launched himself at me. I dodged out of the way, kicking his side and swiping a paw at his muzzle but missing by an inch.

Suddenly, a weight crashed on my back, causing me to yelp. I tried to get back out from under the wolf but failed every time. "Fine, fine, you win!" I barked.

The weight disappeared, and I sat up to see my parents snickering at me in their human forms. I shifted back and frowned. Rosie snuck to my side and tried to lick my face. "Rosie! You were supposed to distract my mom while I took out my dad!" I ranted at her. Rosie lowered herself to the ground in shame. I sighed. "It's okay, girl. I know it's hard. We'll get it one day."

I looked up as my dad chuckled. "One day, but for now, we're still the champions." My dad smiled wickedly at me.

"Oh, yeah?" In a split second, I shifted and leapt at my dad, but he had seen it coming. He jumped out of the way and knocked me aside. I slid across the ground. I growled as I shook myself and shifted back again.

He snickered at me. "Don't think you can get me that easily."

I scoffed and started back to the house. Rosie ran up behind me. I sighed. "We'll get em', girl. One day."

I looked up to the clear, bright blue sky, thinking about the day when I would finally be able to beat my parents. Suddenly, I froze as I heard a howl ring in the air. It was one of prayer to the Moon Goddess. But how could I hear it? Other werewolf packs were supposed to stay away from us. They never got close enough for us to hear. Yet, this sounded as if they were only a thirty minutes wolf run. And during the daytime? Werewolves always howled prayers to the Moon Goddess under the light of the moon.

I turned around to see my parents looking at each other, a frightened look plastered on their faces. They abruptly turned to me and started to usher me towards the house. "Hurry, Samantha. Get in the house right now," my father ordered urgently.

But I didn't want to. Something pulled me towards that howl. Some invisible force lured me closer, but my parents were pulling me into the house. I pushed against them but only slightly. They were still my parents, my family and I remembered that.

Finally, they got me into the house. "Go to your room, Sammie," my dad commanded as he ran a hand through his hair.

"But-"

"Now, Samantha!" I flinched. He never yelled at me. Never. I turned around and ran up the stairs with Rosie quick on my heels. I slammed my bedroom door and locked it as soon as Rosie shot through the door after me. I leaned against the door, letting my head fall back and hit it. The tears slowly started to flow down my cheeks. What was going on? Why was there a werewolf pack so close to us? Why were my parents acting like this...Why did my dad yell at me?

As the hours passed by while I waited for when I could go to sleep, I cleaned my room. I went into my bathroom, cleaned it and got ready for bed: took a shower, brushed my teeth and hair, and got my clothes together. I never left my bedroom once after I had locked it though. Not even when my mom came up to bring me dinner. I didn't even talk to her. I wasn't hungry anyway, even though I hadn't eaten since lunch.

Finally, I could go to bed, but as I was laying down to go to sleep, I heard it. The howl. I was drawn to my window, and I opened it and stuck my head out into the moonlight as I listened to the howling of the werewolf pack. Something wasn't right. Something was wrong, and I felt the need to jump out of the window and run.

But I didn't. I stopped myself, closing the window, pulling my light blue curtains over it, and walking back to my bed. Rosie whined from the foot of my bed. I rubbed her head and sighed. "It's okay, girl. I don't know what's going on, but everything will be alright."

I curled up under the sheets of my bed and fell asleep. That was the first night of the dream. An old brown wolf appeared in my dreams, with the picture of a wolf in her old eyes as she spoke:

"One with a heart as pure as snow
One with a soul that flies in the sky
One with hair, brown as dried leaves
One who will save all our kind."

Then her eyes would clear, and she would speak to me personally. "Your time is coming, Samantha. Soon, we will all need you."

Then I woke up, jerking up in my bed. Rosie jumped up, surprised at my sudden movement. My breaths came out shallow and raspy as I tried to catch my breath.

I looked at Rosie. Being a werewolf, I could tell how she felt easily. Her face was one of fear. Probably because mine was, too. "Something's coming, Rosie. And somehow, I'm involved."
