I woke up in the middle of the night after having the dream again. It was almost two in the morning. Rosie lifted her head sleepily, but it just fell right back on the bed as I grabbed the backpack from the bedpost and started stuffing clothes and necessities in. I dropped to the floor to grab some snacking foods, such as Doritos, fruit, crackers, and some bottled water from under my bed.

I stood up again and went over to my desk. I grabbed a notepad and a pen and started to scribble down a not for my parents.

Dear Mom and Dad,

I'm really sorry that I have to do this to you, but I have to know the truth. Something isn't right; there is something I have to do and I need to find out what. Don't worry about me. I'll be fine. Rosie and I will be careful. I love you with all my heart. Don't come after me, please. This is something I have to do on my own. I love you.

Love,
Sammie

I cried as I wrote it, a few tears splattering on the paper. This would hold them off from finding me, but I knew, no matter what I said, they would try to come after me. I wiped away my tears with the back of my hand and put the note on my bed.

Finally, I slung the backpack onto my back and went over to Rosie. "Time to go, girl," I whispered. She raised her head and whined softly. I sighed. "I know, Rosie, but we have to go. You can stay here if you want-" I was immediately cut off as Rosie jumped up and covered my face in licks. I gave a small laugh, but I kept it as quiet as possible.

I went over to open the window before I backed up a little. I ran for the window and jumped out, shifting in the air. Rosie jumped out after me. It was surprising for a regular husky to be able to jump out of a two story window, but after two years of practice, she got the hang of it. After she broke her leg a few times. Not my fault! She thought she could just jump out after me and be fine!

I landed on the grass lightly before I took off running for the woods. I let the pull guide me, my instincts taking me over as we ran across the flat, grassy lands that my parents' owned before entering the forest.

It was beautiful in the moonlight, but now wasn't the time to admire the scenery. The woods were something new for me. I had never entered them; I always stayed on our land. A cool night breeze drifted through my fur. I felt the soft undergrowth beneath my paws. I smelled all of the small critters that inhabited the forest. It was an interesting place. But still...I had to find what I was looking for. The werewolf pack.

I picked up my speed, and Rosie did as well, always staying by my side. We traveled for several hours until finally, the forest was alive with life in the daylight.

Soon, I started to pick up the scent of our kind. It was both familiar and not because I could tell they were werewolves but each werewolf had a unique scent. But nonetheless, I followed it.

I thought about my parents as I ran. They were going to be devastated when they found out that I was gone. But I bought myself some time before they found out since I was supposedly locked in my bedroom, not allowed out of the house, and mad at my parents so I wouldn't speak to them. Hopefully, it would rain before they found out so my scent trail would be most likely washed away. It didn't rain too often, but maybe it would in a few days or something.

It was about midday when we stopped to eat. I shifted into my human form and sat with my back to the trunk of a tree. I ate some chips while I gave Rosie some dog bacon stuff. She loved it, of course, and my chips settled my hunger enough to keep moving.

We traveled for a few more hours, stopping to eat every once in a while. It turned out the werewolf pack had left. So they were no longer so close to our land. That was both good and bad. Good because it would be harder for my parents to find me. Bad because we had to travel farther and longer to find them.
