"Mason?" I whispered, fearfully. I shifted back to human form and trembled. My left hand automatically grabbed the wolf charm on my wrist as Mason stared at me with ice cold eyes.
"Go away, Sammie," he growled.
I shook my head to clear it and let go of the charm. My hands bunched into fists, and I growled, even though I was in human form.
Mason shifted back to human form and looked at me. His eyes softened for just a moment, just a second to reveal the eyes of the Mason I knew. I gave him a small smile and stepped forward. "Mason, please. Tell me what's going on," I said softly.
Mason took a step back. "Sammie, just stay away, okay?"
"Why?" I asked as I continued to move forward.
Mason continued to move away from me. "Sammie, just stop. Just go away, and leave me alone. I don't want hurt you."
Concern crossed my face. "Mason, you would never hurt me. It's okay. We can work this out together." I reached Mason and touched his arm. His eyes flickered, showing me my Mason once again. He was frightened and worried.
Suddenly, his face hardened, and he pulled his arm out of my grasp. He turned away from me. "Sammie, we can't be friends anymore."
I froze. "What?" I asked in a small voice.
"We can't be friends anymore."
I felt like my heart was shattering. My head swirled, and I felt like I had just been shot with an arrow through my chest. "Why not?"
Mason whirled on me. "Because we can't!" He snarled.
My eyes teared up, but I felt the anger rising within me. "Why not?!" I screamed at him.
Mason gritted his teeth and said something that broke the last of me. "Because I don't like you. I never have and I never will. You're weak, clumsy, and ridiculous. I can't have a friend like that. I can't have a Beta like that," he growled.
I took a step back. My mouth dropped open and the tears broke through. I started to sob as I stared at my old best friend. "You know what?" I started. My brown eyes grew dangerous, and I clenched my fists. "Why was I even ever friends with you? All you are is a bully, and you don't care about anyone but yourself, even when someone else tries to do everything for you! I was there for you, Mason! But you weren't there for me!" I yelled.
Mason stood his ground, his stone hard expression never changing. "And I don't care what you think! If you really want to go there, then I'll go, too. Good luck finding a new Beta." I turned away and began marching back to the house. "And a new best friend," I whispered as I started to cry again.
"Sammie..." I heard Mason start, but I whipped around and cut him.
"Don't. Call. Me. That. You will refer to me as Samantha and nothing else. But it would be better if you just didn't talk to me at all." Mason's face looked hurt for a moment, but I didn't care anymore. This was his fault. I jerked back around and cried.
I ran into the pack house sobbing, earning several concerned looks from others. "Sammie?" I heard Abi call.
"Leave me alone," I cried as I dashed for my bedroom. Rosie yipped and tried to run into the bedroom with me, but I pushed her out. "Just leave me alone!" I slammed the door and locked it behind me. I heard Rosie whining beyond the door, and Abi began to knock on the door, calling my name and asking if I was okay.
I ignored them. I went over to the window and opened it. I grabbed the ledge and pulled my self up. I climbed up a few more windows until I made it to the roof.
It was quiet up here. I pulled my knees to my chest and let the tears flow free. I let myself cry for what seemed like hours, but was probably only mere minutes.
I brought my head up from my knees to see that I had automatically grabbed my charm for comfort. I silently cried as I remembered all of me and Mason's times together. We had spent six months together. Since that very first day when I tripped on the stairs and he caught me to when me and him play fighting to when he helped us get out of the dungeon to my birthday night when he gave me a howling wolf charm and told me that he would always be there for me.
I frowned. But he lied. He wasn't always there for me. I looked down at the back of the charm and read the message engraved into the metal plate.
If you are alone, I'll be your shadow
If you want to cry, I'll be your shoulder
If you are not happy, I'll be your smile
If you need me, I'll always be there
~MasonI'm alone, but he's not my shadow. I'm crying, but he's not my shoulder. I'm not happy, but he's not my smile. I need him...but he's not here.
"You're not here for me. You're not my best friend. And you don't care about me." I cried as I stood up. I pulled off the bracelet and threw it as far as I could throw into the woods. I fell to the ground and buried my face in my hands as I cried.
It took until the next evening for someone to find me. I was brought back down with everyone, but I refused to talk, even to Abi or my parents. No one knew about Mason or what he had done.
I stayed in my room all the time. Rosie always laid on my bed with me, and Abi and my parents brought me food in bed. But I didn't eat much.
Alpha Drake came in with my parents once, but I didn't even look at him. Abi finally noticed I wasn't wearing my bracelet and asked about it, but again, I refused to answer.
I went like this for a few days. I still wouldn't speak or eat a lot. Until one night, I finally spoke again. But to someone I didn't expect to speak to.

Hey, you guys! I am so tired because I went to bed at 3:30 in the morning since I was finishing my summer assignment. Turns out it was harder than I thought it would have been. And then I woke up this morning at 8:30, so I'm extremely tired. Anyways, poor Sammie. She's lost her best friend, her first real friend. The song is Armor by Landon Austin, and I thought it was perfect for their fight and how Sammie feels. Well, hope you guys enjoyed this chapter (except that it was really sad)! Have fun! Vote and comment! :)
