"Let's go, let's go! Come on, let's go!" I yelled at the gathering warriors. It was almost time. So many warriors, so many packs, so many werewolves preparing for a fight that they or their loved ones might not be coming back from.
"Sammie!" One of the warriors of our pack yelled. "That's everyone from the fields. Alpha wants you in the front lines."
"Okay, thanks, Andy!" I was about to turn away when I felt two gentle and familiar arms wrap around me.
"Please be careful, Sammie. I love you too much to lose you," A soft voice said.
I smiled. "Of course, mom. I love you, too." I kissed her check before I turned and made my way through the huge crowd of werewolves until I made it to the front line with the Alphas and the Betas. I stood in the exact front and center with Alpha Drake on my left, Mason on my right, and Beta Brian and my dad behind me.
Then, in the distance, we saw movement. They were here. Right in the front were Veronica and Sebastian with two hybrids on their sides and a massive army behind them. The beasts hissed and snarled as they drew ever closer.
Finally, they stopped about three hundred feet away from us. Veronica placed her hand on her hip and smiled evilly with Sebastian. Several small growls sounded behind us, but the warriors were kept in line by their Alphas.
"Well, well," Veronica sneered, "if it isn't the little savior, and...what is this?" She gestured to the mass of werewolves. "More subjects to join us? Well, thank you so very much, little savior." She smiled like a witch.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, but I don't believe you understand." I smiled. Veronica's smile fell, and her eyes narrowed. "We aren't going to let you keep on taking our packmates. Thirty eight packs are gathered here, ready and willing to fight to protect those they care about. And on my life, you two won't be getting out of this fight alive."
Veronica's smile returned as she bared her fangs. "Then your life is what it will cost."
"On your call, Sammie," Alpha Drake whispered so quietly that only I would be able to hear.
I took a deep breath. On my call. I was going to be the one, a seventeen year old werewolf, to start this battle. The battle that would be the end of the hybrids or of the werewolves. I took a deep breath and used the mind link. "Everyone? I just want to say something before this all goes down. I just want to say...thank you. Thank you for being so kind and amazing. Thank you for being so warm and welcoming. Thank you for fighting and protecting those you care about. And no matter what happens, you are all part of the number one pack to ever live! Now, let's win this!" Everyone in the pack yelled back through the mind link before we disconnected, and I shifted just enough so that my eyes changed to a wolf's eyes and that I could howl a fearsome battlecry into the sky, letting it echo through the forest.
On all my sides, the werewolves surged forward. I finished shifting and lead them all straight into the charging hybrids. I snarled as I jumped at one, grabbing his throat in my mouth and squeezing until he dropped dead after he clawed me. I moved onto the next and the next, fighting one hybrid after another.
Our advantage was that we had more werewolves than they had hybrids. But we had one major disadvantage. Bitten once and you're done for. You become a hybrid. I was the only one who didn't have that disadvantage because I was the savior.
I raked my claws down the sides of a hybrid and stood over his lump body when I heard a voice call, "Sammie!" I turned around just in time with wide eyes as a hybrid leaping at me was knocked aside by a familiar brown wolf with icy blue eyes. "Be careful!" He yelled to me before he jumped back into the fight.
I felt tears welling up in my eyes, but I shook my head to stop it. "No, you can't cry right now. You have a fight to win," I said to myself before I turned with a viscous snarl and leaped at more hybrids.
One jumped onto my back, and I twisted around my head, trying to get at him while he nipped and bit at my sides. "Oh no, you don't!" I growled as I squirmed until I was able to get loose. I jumped around and began darting in and out like training until the hybrid collapsed to the ground.
We fought through the afternoon, losing some and beating some. But then I reached them. The two miserable, rotten people-no, monsters that had caused all of this terrible pain to so many. Veronica and Sebastian stood in front of me, hissing, crouched, and ready.
I stood in a fighting position, my teeth bared and a growl mixed snarl escaping my throat. "You won't get away with this," I growled.
"Oh, dear, we already have," Veronica sang while laughing. I growled at her words and charged straight ahead. The vampires hissed and sped forward. They were a blur as they circled me. I tried to keep my eyes on them and stay light on my feet just in case they came flying from the circle.
Sebastian shifted his position and charged. He punched my ribs, causing me to yelp in pain. I flew back around and bit down on his hand with a crunch. Sebastian let me bite down on him while he pounded my head with his other hand. Spots started to dot my vision as something else, probably Veronica, started kicking and punching my back and sides. I wasn't going to make it like this.
Suddenly, I heard several viscous snarls and looked over to where four familiar wolves were standing together. Alpha Drake, Beta Brian, Alex, and Mason charged towards the two vampires to help me. Together, we bit, kicked, and clawed.
We were bleeding from our many wounds, but not as much as they were. Against one werewolf, they can easily win. But against five? Not so much.
Finally, Veronica and Sebastian fell to the ground. I barked, and the four wolves backed away. My face become stone hard as I approached the two despicable vampires that had caused me and so many others so much pain.
I looked down on them as I spoke with a harsh tone, "I am the savior, the one to save the werewolves. I will protect every last one of us with my dying breath, and I will not stand for you hurting those I care about any longer. Your time is up." I smirked. "And I told you I would win right from the beginning."
Veronica and Sebastian hissed before their expressions turned to ones of horror as we finished them off. Not too much later, the hybrids were all dead, too.
We cheered and celebrated our victory. Tears built up in my eyes, and I let myself fall back on the ground, limp. "Sammie!" I looked up at Mason's worried expression hovering over me. "Are you alright?"
I smiled and started to cry softly. "Yeah...yeah, I'm good. We won. We actually won!" Mason's face lifted into a smile as he laid down on the ground next to me. I sat and stared into those icy blue eyes of his. Mason leaned forward and kissed me. He pulled me closer to him, and I wrapped my arms around his neck.
I sat on his lap and listened to the cheers of the packs as the sun began to dip below the horizon. We did it. We won against the vampires and the hybrids. We were finally safe again. And we could finally live happily without fear.
When I first learned of what I was, I denied it with every fiber of my body. I didn't want to be this almighty savior that everyone wanted to save them. But now...I feel a lot different about it. It's not just part of what I am anymore. It's who I am. I am the savior.
