I cried as I ran deeper into the forest. I had left the pack territory a while ago. I was going to go back. Just not yet. I needed some time to myself, time to think and calm down.
Oh, who was I kidding? I was never going to be ready for this. I wasn't some savior! I was a simple werewolf who had lived happily with her family until some mysterious things happened. But I wasn't a savior.
Suddenly, I stopped in my tracks. What are you doing? I asked myself. Everyone is probably worried sick, trying to track you down since you ran off. I thought about my dad, my mom, Abigail, and Mason, how worried they probably were.
I turned around. I needed to go back. But something kept me from moving forward. A scent. A strange scent that I both felt like I knew but didn't. It was the scent of werewolves, but also the scent of something else. It seemed twisted. But for some reason, I felt anger rise in me at the scent that wasn't werewolf.
As if I couldn't control my movements, I slowly turned back around and padded deeper into the woods. It was like the pull that had drawn me to the werewolf pack, but this was worst. It was so bad that I couldn't stop myself from moving. I couldn't turn myself around. I was moving, whether I wanted to or not, farther and farther away from my family, my friends, and my pack.
I walked aimlessly, my movements controlled by an invisible force. My paws were beginning to ache, my tail dragged on the ground tiredly, and my head hung sadly. I didn't like this. I didn't like this one bit, but I couldn't help it. I was trapped in a spell that I didn't know how to break.
But then it broke. I had stopped in the middle of a clearing, deep in the woods. I could smell the strange scent, much fresher than the other scents I had followed.
My head jerked to the side as I heard rustling in a bush nearby. I began to shake as I slowly backed away. My head jerked to the other side of the clearing as more rustling sounded. I twisted around and around as more and more rustling erupted all around me.
Finally, a growl mixed hiss sounded to my left. I jerked around to see two bright yellow eyes staring at me through the shadows. The eyes came closer as a huge wolflike beast emerged from the undergrowth. It was a werewolf alright. It had thick, dark brown fur and the face of a wolf as well as ears, tail, and paws. But what it also had was fangs. But not like werewolf fangs. No, not at all. They were longer, sharper than werewolf teeth. And it didn't look totally like a werewolf. For one thing, it stood on two legs. So, it was not only wolflike, it was humanlike. Now, of course, I could go on all day about every aspect of these...things, but I really don't have the time if I want to stay alive.
The creature growled, or maybe it hissed, again as it approached me. Saliva dripped from its open mouth, showing off its horrendous fangs and teeth. Similar creatures began to emerge from the edges of the clearing, all heading towards me. I took fearful steps back, afraid of the creatures that approached me.
Suddenly, one of the scents of the creatures overwhelmed me from behind. I was about to jump around to face my attacker when a sudden pain filled my head. Spots blocked my vision as I fell to the ground. The last thing I heard before everything went dark was a sweet, familiar voice screaming my name. Mason.

My eyes fluttered open. I laid there silently for a moment before everything that had happened came rushing back to me. I jerked up with a gasp and looked around. I was in my bedroom back at the pack house. But how?
I got out of my bed and made my way to the door. I turned around to call Rosie to come, but then I realized she wasn't there. That was unusual. Rosie always slept with me.
I shrugged and walked out the door. I walked down the hallway and started down the stairs when I smelled them. Alpha Drake, Beta Brian, my father...and Mason.
I slowly started up the stairs to the next floor. I cautiously walked down the hallway until I stopped at the door to Alpha Drake's office. Muffled voices sounded on the other sound of the door, and I raised my hand to the doorknob. I stopped to take a deep breath before I twisted the knob and went inside.
No one looked up at me as I entered the office. Alpha Drake was sitting in his desk chair, Beta Brian stood just behind him, my dad sat in one of the leather chairs in front of Alpha Drake's desk, and finally, Mason paced around the room, hand pulling through his hair nervously.
"The trackers lost the scent again. They seem to just vanish into thin air," Alpha Drake was explaining.
"There must be some way to track them, some way to find out where they have gone," my father said, looking down at his feet in thought.
Alpha Drake threw a worried glance at his son. "Mason, worrying isn't going to help anything."
Mason whipped around to face his father. "She is out there! Those...things took her! She is in trouble, and we're over here, siting in an office talking!" Mason raged.
Alpha Drake didn't seem surprised, but I certainly was. Mason never raised his voice at his father. And speaking back to an Alpha? Oh, that can certainly get you into some trouble. But Alpha Drake didn't seem bothered by it, like he was expecting it. "Mason, calm down. Sammie will be alright. She is the savior after all."
Wait, what? Hold up! What did he mean? I was right in front of them. "Um...you guys?" I asked quietly, taking another step into the room.
"Didn't you see her?! She's confused, hurt, and scared! She doesn't understand any of this! Sammie can't handle all of this by herself!"
I scoffed at him, "Um, excuse me? What did you just say? Because, I swear, Mason, if you're calling me weak, you're dead!" But Mason didn't pay any attention to me.
"We have to find her!" Mason yelled, slamming a fist into the wood of his father's desk. "I'm tired of this! I watched them take her, dad," Mason whispered. "I watched as she fell to the ground and they disappeared with her. I watched it all, dad. I watched it all. And I couldn't do anything about it." Mason hung his head and fell into one of the leather chairs.
He buried his face in his hands. I rushed forward to check on him. "Mason?" I whispered, but he didn't look up. "Mason, look at me." Still, he didn't lift his head. Finally, I leaned down to pry his face away from his hands. But as soon as I touched him, my hand went right through. I gasped as I jerked my hand back in surprise.
I breathed rapidly as fear took hold. I leaned down to touch him again, but the same thing happened, my hand went straight through Mason. I couldn't touch him. "What is going on?" I whispered.
I started to back away in fear as Alpha Drake stood up and walked to his son's side. He placed a hand on Mason's broad left shoulder. "I know it's hard, Mason. But we'll find Sammie. I promise."
And then, everything went black.
