I woke up as the light began to shine through the curtains of my window. I sat up and yawned. "Morning, Rosie." Rosie lifted up her head sleepily and yipped. I smiled as I got out of bed. I ran my hand down her back and headed for my closet. I quickly pulled on some blue shorts and a grey tank top.
I went into my bathroom and brushed my hair, pulling it back into a braid. "Come on, girl," I called as I opened the bedroom door. Rosie ran after me, and the two of us dashed down the stairs.
I went into the kitchen and opened the cabinet. I grabbed the Nutrigrain box. I pulled out two Nutrigrain bars, one strawberry, one blueberry, before I headed back up the stairs to the fourth floor.
Rosie ran off, probably to go play with Jasper and Rex. I walked down the hall to the second door on the left. I stopped in front of the door and knocked. "Mason, get up," I said through the door. Nothing. "Mason, get up now or I'm coming in. Come on, I got you a blueberry Nutrigrain bar." Still nothing. I sighed. "Fine, I'm coming in." I turned the door knob and went into Mason's room. We always woke each other up in the morning, and I was allowed to just walk in if he didn't answer.
But it was empty. I threw the Nutrigrain bars onto Mason's made bed and looked around the room. His bathroom door was open, so he wasn't in there and the same was true for his closet. "Where the heck is he?" I asked out loud.
I grabbed the Nutrigrain bars and went back downstairs. When I reached the bottom, I saw Abi crossing the room from the front door. "Hey, Abi!" I called, running up to her. Abi stopped and smiled. "Have you seen Mason?"
Abi frowned. "He's not with you? That's a shocker."
I frowned at her. "I'm serious, Abi. I can't find him. He wasn't in his room, and as you can see," I gestured around the room, "he's not in here."
"Huh," Abi's eyebrows furrowed together, "that is weird. That's not like Mason."
"You think?"
Abi frowned at me. "Look, maybe he had some stuff to do. Come on, let's go do something!" Abi turned excited, a smile brightening up her face. "Ooooo, want to go into town for breakfast?"
I gave one last look around the room before I looked down at the two Nutrigrain bars in my hand. I sighed. "Sure, let's go." Abi squealed happily and walked out the front double doors. I gave one last sigh and threw the Nutrigrain bars onto the couch before I ran out the door after Abi.
Abi started up the red convertible, and we left the pack house to head into town for breakfast. There were days where it would be like this, where Mason would be busy, so I would spend the day with Abi. But he always told me that he was busy. I looked back at the pack house, thinking about Mason before it disappeared from view.

"Well, that's two movies. What do you want to watch next?" Abi asked as she went over to the DVD player to switch out the disks.
"Um...how about you pick this time?" I suggested halfheartedly. Abi nodded and put a disk in. We watched the movie mostly in silence, but every once in a while, Abi would talk about the outfits the characters wore or about their attitudes.
At some point, I must have fallen asleep because the next thing I knew, I was wrapped up in a blanket with a pillow under my head on the game room couch. I sat up and grabbed the blanket and pillow since it was from my room.
I trudged up the stairs and pushed my bedroom door open. Rosie was laying at the foot of the bed that was missing a pillow and a blanket. I threw the stuff onto the bed, curled up onto it, and fell asleep again.

"Mason, get up. I've got breakfast," I said through Mason's bedroom door. "Mason, come on." There was still no answer, so I walked in. It was empty. Again.
This was the fourth day in a row that this had happened. Everyday, I came to Mason's room to wake him up with Nutrigrain bars, but he was never there. I would end up spending the day with Abi, never seeing Mason once. Granted, I loved spending time with Abi, but my best friend had just seemed to disappear from my life. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating just a little bit.
I growled in frustration and stormed out of the room. This time I was going to have to find out about Mason another way. I walked down a few doors and knocked on the office door. No answer. "Alpha Drake? May I speak to you?" I asked through the door. No answer. He wasn't there.
"Where the heck is everyone?" I growled softly before I went back down the stairs. I went straight out the front doors; I was struggling to hold myself together. I needed to get away from the pack house.
I shifted and bolted for the forest. I growled and snarled as I ran. I was frustrated, and I needed to let it all out. I came across a large clearing. I began to leap back and forth in the clearing, diving in and out of the trees, slashing my claws across their trunks. I let everything go, let my instincts take over for a moment.
Finally, I calmed down. I padded over to the center of the clearing and shifted before I sat down on the ground. I crossed my legs; I brought up my right wrist to look at the silver bracelet tied there. The small howling wolf charm hang from the chain, swinging back and forth. I held the little charm in my left hand as I closed my eyes and took deep breaths.
After several hours of just sitting in that clearing, I finally stood up and headed back to the pack house. When I got there, I slowly walked up and pushed open the front doors.
The living room was bustling like usual, except there was only one thing in the entire room that caught my eye. A tall shape with brown hair walking to the stairs.
I rushed over to Mason and grabbed his arm. "Mason!" I called, relieved. But he didn't move. "Mason?" I walked around Mason to look at his face. I gasped at the cold ice blue eyes that stared back at me. They were filled with something I had never seen in Mason's eyes. Heck, I didn't even know what it was! All I knew was that Mason wasn't his usual self. His jaw was set, he seemed to be clenching his teeth, and then there was his eyes, of course...
"Mason, where have you been? I haven't seen you for four days!" But still, he didn't move. He didn't react at all. "Mason, are you okay?"
"Yes, I'm fine." My eyes widened at the stone hard, deep voice that spoke to me. That wasn't Mason. Mason had a kind, sort of deep voice, but it wasn't this deep...or this menacing.
"Mason..." But he ignored me. Mason pulled his arm out of my grasp and pushed past me to get up the stairs. I stared after him, as shocked as I possibly could be. This wasn't Mason. At least, it wasn't my Mason, my best friend.
