I walk into my second hour, Ms. Ryedhart's English class. I take a seat next to Lindsay in the back row. "Wow, a minute early. Nice job," she says.

"Well, we can't all be Ms. Perfect, now can we?"

"Hey, you know what they say. Six minutes early is six more minutes that I get to play on my phone."

We laugh. The bell gives off its ear piercing shriek.

"Okay students, take your seat. Sit down. Hey, Kimberly, quiet," Ms. Ryedhart begins. "Today we will begin reading Michell Hart's first novel, The Fountain of Truth. It is a wonderful story about romance, passion, and adventure. Your homework is to start reading chapters one through five and write a five-page essay by tomorrow. No exceptions. You may now get started, and no talking!"

"A five-page essay due tomorrow?" Lindsay asks.

"I know right! I'm supposed to go shopping with Jessie tonight! And I have my party."

"Hey! I said no talking! One more word and you can both land yourself a seat in detention, and a zero in the grade book." We get to work.
