~ Mikoto's POV ~

I lazily laid on the couch in the bar, watching the smoke rise from my cigarette, Anna was curled up beside me as usual.

"No really, I've been practicing! I swear!" I heard Tatara shout.

"Oh sure, just don't burn the whole bar down." Yata replied, a hint of playful annoyance in his voice. I sat up when I heard this, looking over at all the commotion that was keeping me awake.

Tatara stood with the rest of the clan, he was smiling brightly from ear to ear; he kneeled down and placed his hands in front of him, I noticed that there was a piece of paper in the middle of the little circle. I stood up and joined the group to see what he was trying to do. Anna ran up next to me and grabbed onto my hand, curiously peeking out from behind me. Tatara looked up and grinned at me, his eyes sparkling. He then closed them, and began to concentrate, his red aura surrounding him. We all watched anxiously as the paper began to catch, small sparks of red jumping from its surface. Soon enough, a little flame spread across the paper, and its edges began to burn and curl beneath the heat; but as soon as it started, the flame dissipated into the air in the form of a butterfly.

The others began to chuckle, Tatara sighed in defeat.

"Hey! At least I got something to burn." He said cheerfully.

"You're just not meant to be a fighter." I smirked at him.

"Yeah, You're like our Mascot, you know?" Shohei said, laughing.

"Mascot? Wouldn't I have to wear some stupid suit for that?" Tatara asked, going over to sit at the bar.

"Don't worry, we'll buy you one, it will be shaped like a flame." Yata said, sitting on his skateboard on the floor.

"Um, I don't know about that." Tatara replied, scratching the back of his neck nervously.

I chuckled to myself and went back to my spot on the couch. Izumo joined me, lighting up a cigarette of his own.

"Odd bunch, aren't they?" he asked,

"Absolutely." I replied, closing my eyes and falling into a long-awaited sleep.

My eyes shot open, and I tried to move around to sit up, my back hurt and my limbs were aching. Oh yeah, I was in prison. The wooden bench I had to sleep on had definitely done a number on me. I glanced down at the wooden restraint around my wrists; I keep forgetting why I bothered to come here in the first place. I needed time to think, but I could have just locked myself in my room. Then again, as a king, I had to have some kind of responsibility for my clan.

It had been a few months since Tatara was killed, we were all bent on getting revenge on the colorless king. The bastard had no sense at all. Hell, everyone else knew not to mess with us, so why did he? Small red flames jumped from my hands and feet, I wished he would just make a move so we could finish him off, I was sick of this place and I was tired of waiting, but I would never show it.

I heard the cell door opening, the wooden pieces splitting apart to make a big opening.

"Hello, Munakata." I said smirking at him.

"Suoh." He nodded.

"What brings you here?" I asked.

"I wanted to ask you about some things." He said, sitting next to me on my "bed".

"Okay..." I trailed off, shifting around uncomfortably. Since when did he want to have a decent conversation with me?

"Why are you here Suoh? Why aren't you with your clan?" He asked, he sounded genuinely curious. I blinked a couple times.

"You restrained me." I chuckled, avoiding his actual question.

"You know that's not what I mean." He said, staring right into my eyes. I scoffed and looked away.

"I can't tell you."

He grabbed my shirt collar and pulled me towards him violently, his nose almost touching mine.

"Let us go after Totsuka's killer, you can decide how he is executed, that way you won't exceed your Weismann level." He pleaded with me.

I stood up, moving away from him, the chains connected to my feet dragged behind me.

"That's an offer that's almost too good to pass up, but I have to say no thanks." I replied, hiding my scowl with a playful smirk.

"Why? Your sword of Damocles will fall Suoh, and along with that- you'll abandon your clan." Munakata said, moving in front of me. The look on his face was something that really didn't suit him; it was honest pity... for me.

"You know why I have to do this, I handle my business and you handle yours." I growled.

He sighed, "You're so stubborn." He began walking through the door and it sealed behind him. "I hope you at least consider what I offered."

I listened to his footsteps echo down the hall.

"I can't do that." I mumbled to myself, walking back over to the bench and sitting down.

"Mikoto Suoh, you two are really something huh?" I heard a mocking voice. I looked around at the walls; there was nothing.

"Tell me where you're hiding." I said, closing my eyes.

"Well right now, I'm about to go see that pretty bar of yours, but I thought I'd let you know first." His laughter echoed throughout my head. My eyes shot open and they burned brightly.

"I found you."

And with that, I burned my way to freedom, the walls of the prison glowed in a red ember, my fire following me to the gates.

The members of Scepter 4 stood clear of me, too afraid to risk their lives to stop a king.

The rest of my clan stood just beyond the road, waiting patiently for me. Anna ran up to me when I reached then and latched onto my hand, I looked down at her and smiled.

"Let's defend our home." I said. They all cheered happily and we walked together towards HOMRA.

Whatever happened during this battle was out of my control; I hoped to leave my clan strong and proud, but honestly, I hoped for everything to turn out all right, we would all live. But the thing with fire is that its force is destructive, and what destruction leaves behind- is ash.
