~ Reader's POV ~

"Hey miss, are you lost?" a voice asked, shaking me from my thoughts. I uncurled my little frame and looked up at the figure standing over me. My eyes were red and puffy and tears stained my cheeks. I couldn't stop quivering. The dark alleyway was my only shelter as of now.

"Why are you out here all alone?" He asked again, kneeling down beside me. I crawled away from him slightly, shielding my face with my hands, but I left my eyes uncovered so I could see him.

"I-I.." I tried to speak, but it came out as a hoarse whisper. A few more tears ran down my cheeks. He sighed in annoyance, grabbing my arm roughly and pulling me up so I was standing on my wobbly legs. My breathing became erratic and my eyes were wild with fear, I tried to yank my arm away from him.

"Hey! Calm down!" He yelled at me, trying to grab my other flailing limb that was trying to hit him.

"L-let me go! What did you do to my parents?!" I screamed, kicking and punching at the air.

"Your parents?" The boy asked, tilting his head and loosening his grip. I stopped trashing about and looked at him nervously.

"Look, I don't know what happened to you, but I just want to help you." His eyebrows furrowed and he cupped my face in his hands, looking intently into my eyes. I stared back, the fear seeping away. I nodded slowly, locking my hands together in front of me and letting him lead me out of the alley.

"I'm Chitose, by the way."

I smiled weakly, "I'm (Y/N)."

...

And that's how I met my best friend, it was under odd circumstances, but since that night he hasn't ever abandoned me. His parents accepted me without hesitation and treated me like their own, I have been living with them ever since. We go to regular school together, we live mostly normal lives...except for the fact that we're both in colored clans; different clans I might add. His clan was Homra. They were nice and all, but I didn't like the idea of a family figure. I liked playing things solo, except for the few friends I had in Jungle.

We were like siblings, although that had kind of decreased over the years. We didn't really talk as much, his clan didn't like me and my clan didn't like him, it was as simple as that, we both were dedicated to our kings and would follow them loyally. So we only ever really talked at home.

I slung my backpack over my shoulder, the final school bell rung out loudly, signaling my cue to leave. I saw Chitose in the hall and briefly gave him a smile before rushing out the doors. The cool autumn air hit me, making me sigh in relief, leaves flew past my face, dancing in the breeze. I grinned to myself and hurried onto the sidewalk, I started heading towards Jungle's main headquarters. I had some paperwork to do with the others on an upcoming case. Little did I know, someone was following me...

I popped my headphones in and started listening to Green Day, turning it up loud; I couldn't hear anything around me. Not even the rumbling of skateboard wheels behind me. I made it to the tunnel that would take me underground and pulled my headphones out. Looking around me to make sure nobody was watching.

Although, there was somebody watching, he was standing by the bushes blocking the road. Small strands of his chestnut hair blew around his piercing hazel eyes. The rest of it contained by a black beanie. I glared back at him and crossed my arms.

"Can I help you, red?" I spat, leaning against the brick wall that supported the tunnel. His facial expression lightened and a smirk crept onto his lips.
