~ Reader's POV ~
In the dead of night, the wind whipped the trees, causing a branch to constantly keep hitting my window. Another bolt of lightening struck, lighting up my room and causing me to gasp. I clenched my hands into fists tightly until my knuckles became white. I was trying to brace myself for-
BOOM!
Yeah that.
I hated storms more than anything, I was so afraid of them and I honestly didn't know why, maybe it was the way the adrenaline racing through your veins wants to make you run from it, or the bright electrifying bolts of lightening followed by the loud intimidating roars of thunder. There could also be heavy rain, strong winds, hail... Oh! And tornados!
Basically to sum it all up; storms were terrifying.
I curled up underneath my red blanket and snuggled as close to the mattress as possible. I couldn't help the few tears that ran down my cheeks.
I groaned once I saw a bright flash light up the room from underneath the fabrics. After that, yet another clap of thunder that managed to make the walls shake.
That's it; I need a better hiding spot.
I jumped up from my bed, and wrapped the blankets tightly around me, allowing a small trail of them to follow behind me.
I padded through the hallway, careful not to wake the sleeping clansmen, I really didn't want to know how angry they could get from being woken up in the middle of the night by little ol' me.
I hurried down the wooden staircase and practically ran across the large area of the bar to a small booth in the corner of the room. I sighed as I settled into the leather seat, pressed firmly against the wall in my nest of blankets.
This was far more comfortable, and soon enough I even found myself drifting off to sleep, despite the storm still raging on outside.
...
I was awoken by a large bang; I shot up from my spot on the bench and looked around startled. My back hurt from the position I had slept in, I then remembered where I had wandered off to and groaned. Stupid weather.
But now that I think about it, that bang was not thunder; I glanced out of the windows, it was still dark out but the storm had seemed to of ended. So, that bang could only be one of few other things... it sounded like the bar doors.
My eyes widened and I scooted out of the covers, peering over the back of the bench beside me, to see who it could be at this time.
My gaze landed on a figure walking towards the staircase, it was dark so I couldn't see their features, but their eyes... were glowing!
And they were the color of the complimentary red I had come to know and adore.
I knew them anywhere, so I sat straight up and tilted my head to the side suspiciously.
"Mikoto?" I questioned quietly.
He spun around and looked at me with shocked written on his face; he walked over to me and frowned.
"(Y/n)? Why are you down here?"
A blush rose to my cheeks, nobody knew about my fear of storms yet, I had only been here for a few months and summer started a few weeks ago.
"W-well, my bed...wasn't that comfortable you see, so I moved down here because I thought it be nicer, being all spaced out and stuff..." I rambled on, chuckling dryly.
He raised his eyebrows at me and lightly pushed my legs over so he could sit beside me. I moved over and we sat in silence for a few moments. I couldn't help but wonder what he was doing out so late. Was there a job I didn't know about?
"I know you're lying." He finally said, making me jump.
"O-oh..."
"So what's wrong, tell me, I won't say anything."
I scanned over his facial expression and bit my lip in contemplation. He had his normal blank look on, so I couldn't tell if he was being sincere or not, but he was my king, I trusted him.
"I-I have this phobia." I started nervously.
He nodded.
"I'm terrified of storms... so when that one hit a little while ago, I freaked out and came down here."
"Is that all?"
"Well... yeah."
I looked down, feeling my heart drop; he probably thought it was stupid, just like everyone else I told. I'll be forever comforting myself from this stupid fear.
But he surprised me by wrapping an arm around my shoulders and pulling me towards him so that my face was buried in his jacket. He smelled of cigarettes, and I actually didn't mind it, in fact, I think I even like it.
My breath got caught in my throat as I listened to his heart beating.
"If this ever happens again, come find me." He mumbled. I grinned widely and wrapped my arms around him, hugging him back tightly. I guess I wouldn't be alone. I moved up so that my head was on his shoulder, but he kept his arm around me.
"Mikoto, can I ask you something?" I said, watching the fish swim around in the large aquarium as I started to feel myself getting tired.
"Sure."
"Where were you?"
"Huh?"
"Tonight, why were you out so late?"
"Oh that, um... I wanted to get you something."
I sat up and looked at him, the sleepiness fading away.
"Get me something? But all the stores are closed."
He smiled and shook his head.
"His smile, it's so gorgeous." I thought, admiring the way his lips curved up slightly, adding a small sparkle to those amber eyes.
He snapped my out of my daze by holding up a necklace; it had a gold locket on it that was etched with bronze in beautiful curved lines.
"I know this necklace..."
"It's your sisters, right?"
I felt tears prick at my eyes, and I couldn't help climbing onto his lap so I could wrap my arms around him as I sobbed into his jacket.
A gang had killed my sister before I joined Homra, she was the last of my family, and I was too weak, all I could do was watch... They took her necklace that had a picture of her and I in it together, and I hadn't seen it since.
But Mikoto found it; he must have taken out the gang that did it.
That only made me cry harder, I had no idea he cared so much.
Eventually after all the commotion died down, we sat together side by side, watching the sun rise, as it began to dry the earth from the heavy rains. My sister's necklace hung around my neck, dangling from its chain and shining in the light.
"You know what?" I mumbled, catching Mikoto's attention.
"What?" He mumbled back, placing a small kiss on my forehead.
"If I get to be with you, I hope it storms more often."
He chuckled, resting his head atop mine.
"Me too."
(A/N): Gushy, I know, but it's been storming a lot where I live and this idea just kind of came to me.
