~ Dewa's POV ~

Shizume city had fallen under the darkness of dusk. It had been a very unsettled and stormy day, but now, the weather seemed to be that of a perfect Halloween night; the moonlight reflected off the murky water and in the sky, wispy clouds blocked its glow.

Chitose and I were hanging out around a lake, there was a large warehouse on the other side of it. It was our job to survey the area and take out any intruders as to not disturb the others who were handling the main business inside the warehouse.

I couldn't help but shiver; the air around this place was just downright creepy, and the way the night looked, it really wasn't helping.

"This is so creepy, dude." I muttered, letting my gaze flicker around from time to time.

"I know... I'll never get why they wanted us to be out here."

I heard the flick of a lighter and didn't have to look to know that Chitose had lit a cigarette. He did that sometimes when he was nervous. It made me feel better knowing that he was uneasy too.

My thoughts ended up wandering to my best friend; it brought a smile to my face when I realized how much I knew about him. I knew all his little perks and pet peeves, how he would act cocky when he was happy and how he was never reluctant to show that he was scared of something.

My heart lifted when I thought about how I was always the one he came to when he was scared, he would hug me tightly and bury his face in my jacket, mumbling about how stupid he was acting, but he didn't stop. You know it was actually sort of cute-

Wait a second; I was not actually about to call Chitose – my best friend – cute.

Nu uh! No way!

My face was burning at my mistake and I thanked whatever great power above that it was dark out.

"Hey, Dewa."

I whipped around a little too quickly at the sound of his voice and stuffed my quivering hands in my pockets.

"Y-yeah, what is it?"

I listened as Chitose let out a puff of smoke, and dropped the cigarette on the ground, squishing it with his foot, putting out the only ember of light we had.

"It's really dark out here, huh? I can't see a damned thing."

I nodded although he couldn't see me. Across the lake, which was a good distance away, there was one bright beacon of light attached to the warehouse, but that was it.

The moonlight from just a few minutes ago had vanished underneath the clouds.

"Hey, where are you?" I heard some shuffling around, the crunching of leaves under his sneakers, his voice seemed to be getting farther away.

"I'm over here." I said, trying to guide him towards me.

"God damn it, how do they expect us to fight when we can't even see our opponents." He cursed angrily.

I began feeling around in the dark for him too, well this just got incredibly awkward.

"Keep talking."

"Uh okay, what do I talk about?"

"Dunno. Tell me a story."

"Seriously?"

"Just do it!"

I sighed, running into a tree and then balancing myself out again.

"Um, do you remember that one party a few years ago when we were back in high school?"
