"Relax they won't do anything to Simon. They just wanted to draw you out. They want the Cup, and they think you have it."

Jace and Clary were bickering about some stuff, I sat down on my bed while looking at Clary's sketchbook. I cared a lot about Simon, but the promise rune intrigued me a lot.

I kept on looking at the rune that matches the one on my wrist. Whenever I looked at it, I felt something.. Something powerful.

Jocelyn wasn't currently at her best when it comes to power, so how come this power.. Was very dominant?

"Hey, what are you up to?" I heard someone snapping me out of my thoughts.

"Uh, just looking at Clary's masterpieces." I smiled and Izzy chuckled. She took a seat in front of me and I crossed my legs together as I leaned back to the pillow.

"I'm.. Sorry about Simon. I shouldn't have left him alone," She managed to say.

"I left you guys alone," I said, trying not to make Izzy feel bad.

"Yeah, but you're a Shadowhunter Val." She puts her hand on my hand and I pursed my lips together, trying to get comfortable with the title.

"There is some truth to the idea that human beings should have a modicum of common sense." Alec interrupted. Just by hearing his complaints, I rolled my eyes at him. Was he always this annoying?

"Alec, not now." Izzy warned.

"Great, the mundane is being held captive by the vampires, and then we are helping Valentine's daughter to help to save the mundane?" Alec continued and I darted my eyes at him. "It could get all of us killed."

"It literally never stop talking." I said without looking at the boy. I earned a look from him.

"You make me angry so incredibly quick, it's remarkable." He said, still eyes on me.

"I legit only said 5 words." I looked at him.

"Yet here I am boiling with hate." He said and I scoffed.

"Are you always this?" I asked, furrowing my brows together.

"Being a step ahead of you guys? Yes."

"No, being an asshole." I said putting down Clary's sketchbook on my bedside table.

"Oh trust me, that's not his first time hearing that from a girl." Izzy grinned at him, and the brother rolled his eyes at his sister. "Still figuring out that promise rune?" She said, darting her eyes onthe rune before placing them at my eyes.

"Yeah," I nodded. "What's a promise rune exactly?"

"Someone whom you made the promise to has to draw it on you. Kinda cute, if you think about it." She explained and my lips parted. "What promise did you make? And to who?" She smirked.

"I don't know, I had it since I was little. But the funny thing is, it was like as if it wasn't there, like it never existed. I always knew that it was there on my hand, but I never really got into it until now." I said and it seemed to catch the siblings' attention.

"Whenever I look at it, I feel this weird tingling sensation, like a great power. And when I was younger, whenever I looked at it, for some reason it managed to make me think that I was wasting my time just by looking at it, so I've never really put any attention to it. But, it's different now."

"What kind of promise did you make?" Alec asked, locking his eyes on the rune on my wrist.

"I'm pretty sure that it was a promise that I made with Jocelyn, to protect Clary." I said, and they're eyes went to mine. "But I have a feeling that it's something else."

➰➰➰

"We're crossing a line into vamp territory." Alec complained, huh nothing new.

"That's the point." Jace replied, earning a grunt from Alec. "Come on, Alec, cheer up. It's going to be fun." Jace said, getting all excited.

"Damn it, Jace, just... think this through." I heard Alec said before he and Jace stopped walking, leaving themselves behind. While us two kept walking. Izzy had to go somewhere else to get information.

"I fucking hate cemeteries." I muttered and Clary laughed at me.

"Oh Val, you hate the fact that it's very cold here." She said and well, score for her.

"And I despise cemeteries." I added. Clary was examining this box in front of me, and I looked at her weirdly. "Anyways, you and Jace huh?" I smirked and I saw her lips forming a smile.

"What? We're just friends." She said, looking away.

"Uh huh, sure." I said while crossing my arms together. She stopped and look at me in the eye with a 'really' look. "I am no way being protective over you, I'm just saying that y'all look cute together." I grinned at her and she giggled. "Go best friend das my best friend." I cheered quietly while rocking my hands in mid-air.

She then walked over and I followed her. "Hey! Jace! Alec! I think I've found it! Mary Milligan!" Clary announced and I stood next to her. The two boys was ready to open the box.

"Hold up, you're not actually going to open it right?" I asked as they put their hands on the box that was fully covered in dirt and dust, but they ignored my question.

"Abracadabra." Jace said.

"Wait, you people actually say that?"

"No, Clary, we don't." he chuckled.
