3rd POV:
"How's Max? We all miss him." Izzy said and the sisters shot a look at Izzy. "Little brother. Cute but clingy. Kinda Simon-ish."
"Robert's picking him up at the Mumbai Institute. Where's Jace? We have a situation that has to be handled now." Maryse looked around the institute.
"Well, that's my mom." Izzy said to the two sisters.
"Is your mom always like that?" Valerie asked Izzy.
"She didn't even hug you." Clary added.
"Shadowhunters aren't big huggers." Izzy whispered, both sisters nodded their heads. But their faces dropped when they saw Maryse hugging Jace tightly. Izzy felt uncomfortable, she felt a bit of jealousy because sometimes, she gets underestimated by her own mother, it was like she was never good enough for her.
Clary and Valerie seemed to noticed what Izzy was feeling, Clary put her hand on Izzy's shoulder.
Valerie's POV:
"Mother, welcome back, we didn't expect you." Alec said as he hugs his mom.
"You should be prepared, whether you expect me or not." Maryse pulled away from the embrace. I wasn't sure why, but she didn't seem nice at all. Her face says it all.
"I am, we are." Alec said, putting his hands on his sides.
"We'll talk about the Institute later. Right now, we have a bigger problem." Maryse said, and all shadowhunters' eyes went to her. She was talking on how the Seelies have stopped communicating with the Clave and won't explain why.
"I have Seelie friends." Izzy stepped up.
"Yes, I know about your friends.
Isabelle, we stay separate from the Downworld for good reasons." Maryse said sternly. She seemed to look down at Izzy and I felt bad for her. Maryse kept on talking on how Izzy shouldn't have any type of connection with downworlders, and that it could cause some rebellion.
"You're putting all this on Izzy? Just for having a downwolder friend?" I said, standing up for Izzy. Someone had to do it.
"When someone upsets the natural order, everything falls apart." She said, I was about to answer but Izzy stopped me by shaking her head as well as putting her hand on my shoulder.
"I know how to talk to Seelies." Izzy said, earning a glance from her mom.
"She's right. She can visit with Meliorn and see what he knows.
I could go with her if you want." Alec said, standing next to his sister.
"I'd rather Jace goes along this time. Alec, you stay with the Fairchild and the Morgenstern girls. I want them under control."
➰➰➰
I was sitting on my bed in my room, I had the small wooden box in my hand, examining it. I could finally open the box and there was nothing.
I was curious, a box this ancient doesn't have a history? Bullshit.
I sighed before getting an idea. Maybe there was some sort of part that I've missed? I took my stele from my pocket and drew an unlocked rune on the box.
I opened the box one more time, and this time, the result was different. The box got a necklace and there was a ring on it, and a note?
I held the necklace, it got 'M' on the ring which could resemble anything. I then opened the note, and realized that it wasn't just a simple note, it was a letter.
"Dear my little princess Valerie,
this is your dad writing this letter to your grown self. I'm sorry that I haven't had the chance to spend time with you, your mother, Angela and I were on our duties.
I promise that once everything is under control, which it is now, you're an heir. You will takeover my position when the time is right.
Your mother and I love you, I'm always with you, my little princess.
Your dad, Valentine Morgenstern."
As soon as I finished reading the letter, I had my mouth opened and eyes widened. Then, I heard Alec's voice calling me.
