3rd POV

"Valerie Morgenstern. I've been expecting you." Both Valerie and Alec turned their heads to the blonde haired girl. It was Lydia. Valerie raised her brow, feeling confused because she didn't know who the blonde girl was. "My name is Lydia Branwell, envoy from the Clave." Lydia eyes Valerie up and down, and Valerie finds that rude.

"How do you know my name?" Valerie asked, it came out a bit harsh.

"Who doesn't? Anyways. We need to ask you some questions." Lydia said and Valerie thought that she wasn't in the mood. Lydia seemed to see that. "Or we can arrange a meeting some other time." She said.

"I think now is the best time." Alec said, and both girls turned their gazes to the boy. Valerie looked at her boyfriend who wasn't even dare to look at her in the eye. Valerie without hesitant followed Lydia.

Alec thinks that he was doing the right thing, by proposing to Lydia Branwell, only to restore the Lightwood's family name, and also for the sake of the institute.

But with that aside, he knew deeply that once Valerie finds out, it will hurt her. This made him feel upset. He didn't want to hurt the girl that he truly cares about, but again, he didn't have much choice but to marry Lydia.

Lydia brought Valerie to a room, Clary was in the room as well.

"Clary?" Valerie said, looking at her half sister.

A few days have passed, Simon finally managed to adapt. And he looked like he finally managed to accept what he is. Valerie is yet to find out the behavioral change of Alec.

She has asked him multiple times but the answer were the same, 'I'm fine.' But Valerie didn't buy that.

"You know, it's not good to zone out for too long. I heard you can get possessed." Ethan snapped Valerie out of her thoughts.

"I'm still not sure what's up with Alec." Valerie sighed. She was resting her head on Ethan's lap. They were sitting in the garden at the institute. Ethan and Valerie spent so much time together, he was her best guy friend. "He's really.. Spacey lately." Ethan laughed.

"Spacey?" He repeated.

"Ethan, he wouldn't even look at me in the eye. I'm starting to think that he doesn't.. Care about me anymore." Valerie managed to say.

"He does, he's just got a lot of things happening right now." Ethan breathed out and that caught her attention.

"What? Such as? Why didn't he tell me?" Valerie got up.

"I don't know Val, all I know is that he's working so hard to restore his family name." Ethan said. He knew he couldn't tell her the truth, the marriage. Everyone in the institute knows about the upcoming marriage, Valerie was the only who didn't. Alec made it clear that he wants to tell her himself.

"You should go and see him, try to talk to him." Ethan said. Valerie was hesitant to do it, but whatever Alec was hiding, she needed to know.

Valerie's POV

I went back and I saw Alec in the training room, and was punching the punchbag. He looked angry. Izzy was with him as well, she was trying to stop him. I decided to walk up to him.

"Alec." I said but he didn't respond. He punched the bag harder and it made me flinch. "Stop you're hurting yourself, stop it Alec!" I pulled him away from the bag. I saw his knuckles were bleeding.

"I'll leave you two alone." Izzy said, looking at her brother angrily.

I went and grabbed a towel to clean it. But then I forgot that I can easily use my stele to enable his healing rune.

"Val you don't have to-" He stopped talking as I scan my stele over his healing rune. "Thanks." He said, before looking away.

"You're welcome." I said. We sat there with neither of us talking. "Look, Alec I know you're trying to restore your family name back but, that doesn't mean you have to push me away.." I placed my hand on top of his. I flinched when he didn't say anything. I felt like I got a slap across the face. "Say something? Please Alec just a word, just-"

"I'm sorry, Val." He managed to say. He grabbed my hand and squeezed it, he opened his arm for  me and I gladly accept it. I rested my head against his chest while he locked his arms around me. I played around with the ring on my necklace in his embrace. He kissed the top of my head before resting his chin on it.

"You smell, Alec." I said and he chuckled.

"So, you're telling me that Valentine never loved my mom?" I asked Magnus. He came to the institute to secure the place.

"Not exactly, Angela was just a distraction to him." Magnus said. "He never wanted you, when he found out that your mom was pregnant."

"And look at him now, he's doing everything to get to me." I said. Then, Ethan came. Clary was right behind him. "Hey, nice tux who's it for?" I asked, while opening the weapon drawer.

"For Alexander, of course." Magnus replied while casting a spell.

I chuckled. "Why would he need a tux?"

"For his wedding, of course." Magnus said. I looked at him with my brow raised. He looked at me with his eyes widened. "Oh shit." he mumbled.
