Chapter 40

(3rd PoV)

"Man (Y/N),.. I had no idea.." Gray said quietly. (Y/N) stayed quiet as she tightened her hold around her knees. Gray bent down and kissed the top of (Y/N)'s head. "I'll be right back." He said before he left the living room and headed up stairs to (Y/N)'s bedroom.

Gray grabbed (Y/N)'s favorite (F/C) blanket and went downstairs to the living room. He wrapped the blanket around her and picked her up bridal style. Gray walked into (Y/N)'s bedroom and set her down on her bed. He crawled in next to her, wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into his chest.

"I'm not sure who the person is that passed away, but by the way your acting, I'm sure you and her were close." Gray said.

"You're not alone in this. I'm here for you and always will be. Whenever you want to talk, I'm here." He said.

(Y/N) moved around in Gray's arms and buried her face in his chest. "Thank you." She mumbled quietly. Gray kissed the top of her head, "Get some sleep." (Y/N) nodded and closed her eyes, drifting off to sleep. But just before she completely fell asleep, she heard Gray say something making her smile.

"I love you."

(Y/N) woke to Gray running his fingers through her hair. "Did you get enough sleep?" He asked. (Y/N) nodded as she sat up.

"Do you want something to eat?" Gray asked as he also stood up. (Y/N) nodded again. They headed downstairs and sat down at the table. "I made (Favorite Meal), your favorite." Gray said as he gave (Y/N) a plate. "Thank you." (Y/N) said quietly before she started to eat.

"I met her when I was 12."

"What?" Gray asked as he gave (Y/N) a confused look. They were sitting next to each on the couch. (Y/N) had her head resting on Gray's left shoulder.

"The lady that passed away.. Her name was Ina Shizuma. Since she let me, I called her Ina-san. Ina-san was 80 years old when I met her. Sure she was a little old, but she could still fight if she needed to." (Y/N) said as she chuckled quietly at the last part.

Gray nodded, urging (Y/N) to continue.

"I was on my way to a job when I saw Ina-san fighting against two people. I immediately went over and helped Ina-san defeat the lady and man that were attacking her. After that, Ina-san invited me over to her house that she lived in with her daughter. I immediately became very close to Ina-san and her daughter."

"I would visit them constantly. I always looked for jobs that were placed in (Town's Name) so I could go visit them. The last time I went was about 2 weeks ago since I've been busy with Alicia.. I knew Ina-san was sick, but I didn't think she would get worse.."

Gray wrapped an arm around (Y/N) and pulled her closer to him, "I'm sorry Melo.." (Y/N) shook her head, "Don't be. You didn't do anything.."

(Y/N)'s eyes then darted to the clock on the wall that was in the living room. "I have to go pick up Alicia from school. Do you want to come?" She asked as she stood up. Gray nodded as he also stood up, "Sure."

"There sure are a lot of kids." Gray commented as he and (Y/N) stood outside of Alicia's middle school. They were looking at a field that was filled with students running around. (Y/N) nodded, "Yeah. It's a pretty big middle school. I think there's around 600 students throughout the whole school. At least that's what they told Alicia and I when we took a tour here." "Hm." Gray mumbled. 

The bell then rung, signalling the end of the school day. (Y/N) quickly looked at Gray and sighed. "You should probably put some pants on before the students come running out." She said with a slight smile. Gray looked down, cursed, and looked around for his pants, which were in the grass a few feet away. (Y/N) shook her head as she watched Gray quickly put on his pants.

The doors of the middle school burst open, revealing students of various sizes running out with glee shown on their faces. Some students froze when they saw (Y/N) and Gray. 

"Aren't those Fairy Tail wizards?"

"Yes! They're finally here to destroy school!"

"Why are they here?"

Ignoring the various whispers, Gray and (Y/N) looked through the students, looking for Alicia.

"(Y/N)-nee!" 

(Y/N)'s eyes darted to where she heard Alicia and smiled. Alicia quickly approached her big sister and her sister's boyfriend.

"Hi Gray-san!" Alicia greeted as she saw Gray. "Hey Alicia." Gray greeted back. "Ready to go?" (Y/N) asked. Alicia nodded and they headed home.

After they went home, they decided to go to the guild since they had nothing else to do.

Hah losers. 

Alicia, (Y/N), and Gray: "Author-san/Narrator-san!"

Haha whoops sorry! Now back to the story!

"So we're going to (Town's Name) tomorrow?" Alicia asked. (Y/N) nodded, "Yeah. Our train leaves at night though, so don't worry." "Who's going with us?" Alicia asked as she glanced at Gray. "Gray, and I'm going to ask Team Natsu and see if they want to come with us." (Y/N) said as they approached the guild. Alicia nodded right as they guild doors flew open.

On instinct, Gray, Alicia, and (Y/N) ducked down. If they hadn't, they probably would've been headless from the flying table that went over their heads. "There you are Icicle! Now fight me!" A certain salmon-haired dragon slayer exclaimed. A tick mark appeared on Gray's and (Y/N)'s foreheads as they stood up, along with Alicia who just giggled at Natsu's demand. "You idiot!" Gray and (Y/N) yelled in unison as they stepped into the guild. (Y/N) looked at Alicia and inspected her. "Are you hurt Alicia?" She asked. Alicia shook her head as she smiled, "No, I'm fine."

(Y/N) smiled at Alicia, but glared at Natsu, who was bickering with Gray. She shook her head and led Alicia to where Erza, Lucy, Wendy, Carla, and Happy were sitting at. After they all greeted each other, Gray and Natsu went over to them.

"So do you guys want to come with us..? It's fine if you don't want to." (Y/N) said as she tapped her fingers on the table. Erza placed a hand on top of (Y/N)'s hand as she gave her a sympathetic look, "Of course I want to go with you (Y/N). Someone you truly cared for has passed away and you need comfort." (Y/N) gave Erza a small smile as she looked at everyone else.

They rest of them nodded with similar sympathetic looks.

"Great. We leave tomorrow."
