Chapter 39

(3rd PoV)
"So how is Alicia settling in?" Gray asked as he and (Y/N) ate breakfast at the guild. Well actually Gray was eating breakfast while (Y/N) kept stealing some of his food.

"She's doing good. We finished arranging her room a few days ago. She already has a few friends from school too." (Y/N) said as she quickly snatched a biscuit from Gray's plate.

Gray nodded as he watched (Y/N) eat the biscuit she took. "If you wanted to eat, you should've ordered something." He said. (Y/N) shrugged as she quickly finished the biscuit, "I know. I just wanted to see your reaction." Gray rolled his eyes and continued to eat.

"What was that Stripper?!"

"I didn't even say anything!"

"Those are fighting words Ice Princess!"

"What the hell?! Are you asking for a fight Pyro?!"

As Natsu and Gray started fighting, (Y/N), Wendy, and Carla watched them from a safe distance. They sighed in unison. "Those two never stop, do they?" Carla asked. Wendy and (Y/N) shook their heads.

Just then as the guild doors opened, someone appeared. A well known person that was known for always delivering mail/packages on time and always in perfect condition. Also known as Mr. Jin.

Immediately noticing him, (Y/N) walked towards him, with Wendy and Carla in tow. "Hello Mr. Jin. Do you have something for Master Makarov?" (Y/N) greeted and asked.

Mr. Jin lit up in recognition as he saw and heard (Y/N). "Ah Miss (Y/N)! Just the person I was looking for!" He said happily. (Y/N) tilted her head slightly to the left with a look of confusion on her face, "Me?"

Mr. Jin nodded as he took out an envelope. "Yes you. You have an urgent letter that I absolutely had to deliver to you as soon as possible." He said as he handed (Y/N) the envelope.

"Thank you Mr. Jin." (Y/N) said as she bowed. Mr. Jin nodded his head, said good-bye, and left the guild.

"That was odd." (Y/N) said as she turned around and faced Wendy and Carla. They nodded. "It was odd. I never knew that Mr. Jin would find people to deliver their mail if they weren't home." Wendy said. (Y/N) shook her head, "No not that. I didn't know that he would go and find the person to deliver a letter was urgent." "Oh." Wendy said.

As (Y/N) sat down at a nearby table, Wendy and Carla walked off, giving (Y/N) some private time for her to read the letter.

(Your PoV)
As Wendy and Carla walked away, I examined the envelope. I looked at the front, reading the name that sent it to me.

'Rai Shizuma'

I froze, 'Rai..? Why would she send me a letter? This must be important..'

I opened up the envelope and took out the letter and began reading it, tuning out all of the noise in the guild, especially Gray and Natsu who were still fighting.

'Dear (Y/N),
I would've told you this in person, but I couldn't with all of the arrangements I have to do. I am so sorry for you to find out about this over a letter, I truly am sorry. My mother, Ina Shizuma, has passed away due to old age. She passed away a day ago. You are welcome to come to (Town Name) and stay for a few days until my mother's funeral. I know that you and my mother were very close and I am so sorry that you had to find out this way.

(3rd PoV)
(Y/N) tightly held onto the letter as a shadow cast over her eyes. If someone were to be standing or sitting right by her, they would be able to notice that she was shaking.

(Y/N) stood up, adjusted her messenger bag, grabbed the envelope, and continued to hold tightly onto the letter. Just then a force field appeared around her as she walked between Natsu and Gray.

"Why you- Hey Melo?" Gray said as he stopped fighting, along with Natsu. "What's wrong (Y/N)?" Natsu asked as he saw (Y/N) walk off and out of the guild.

After she left, Natsu and Gray looked at each other in confusion. "What was that about?" Natsu asked. "Did you see her face? Somethings wrong." Gray said as he put on his shirt. "Go after her." Natsu urged, but Gray shook his head. "Not right now. I'm sure you sensed it to, but (Y/N) had a force field around her. She doesn't do that unless she absolutely doesn't want anyone bothering or even talking to her. I'll go to her house in a little bit, trust me." Gray said as he sighed and ran a hand through his hair. Natsu nodded and walked off, leaving Gray to find the rest of his clothes.

(Y/N) slipped off her shoes as she entered her home. She threw her bag onto a hook and dropped the envelope onto the ground, while still holding the letter tightly.

(Y/N) fell onto the couch, facing the ceiling. "Why.. Why did this have to happen..?" She whispered as she let go of the letter, letting it float to the ground.

After a few minutes, a knock was heard at the front door, signaling that someone was there. But (Y/N) simply paid no attention to it.

It could be heard opening then closing after someone stepped inside. "Melo?" A voice called out.

No reply.

Footsteps could be heard walking around the house. In the kitchen, the downstairs bathroom, and lastly the living room, where (Y/N) was located.

"There you are." Gray said as he walked towards the couch.

Again, no reply. It wasn't that (Y/N) was ignoring him, she just simply didn't want to talk to him. Or anyone. She just kept staring at the ceiling, blinking occasionally.

"What's wrong? You left the guild without saying anything." Gray asked after not getting a reply.

Once again, no reply.

Gray sighed and crouched down so he was at (Y/N)'s eye level. "C'mon Melo, talk to me. You can trust me. You seem like you're dead right now." Gray said as he gave (Y/N) a concerned look.

A shadow immediately cast over (Y/N)'s eyes as she heard Gray's last comment. She slowly sat up and brought her knees up to her chest.

Gray sighed again and was about to stand up, when he saw the letter on the ground. He picked up the letter and read it. As Gray finished reading the letter, he began to understand why (Y/N) was being quiet.

"Man (Y/N),.. I had no clue.."
