"LISTEN."
My head shot up and I met beady brown eyes. Arzaylea. She had her hands poised on her hips, her hip jetted out as she glared at me.
She scoffed, her eyes taking in my outfit, "We might dress that same but I look way better."
She flipped her hair over her shoulder, showing off her sparkling pink nails that were at least two inches long. Shiny little talons really.
"That's what you came to tell me." I said, rolling my eyes and going back to folding silk robes.
"No. I came over to talk about your crush on MY Luke." She announced.
I gave her the 'raised eyebrows, nod, I'm totally not listening' act and continued to work.
"I'm pretty sure a crush stops after two people start dating." I said.
With that she scoffed and walked away. I put down the robe I was holding and started at the wall in front of me.
"Doesn't it?" I asked the wall. "Or is that not how it works? Huh...wow this is harder than I thought."
"But maybe it doesn't...or it does?"

When Michael sat down in my car after his shift, he immediately dug my cigarettes out of the glove compartment. Putting one in between his lips, he lit it up and relaxed against the worn seats.
"Bad day?" I asked, leaning over and kissing his temple.
He sighed, "Bad headache."
"Cigarettes aren't going to help." I chuckled.
"They might." Michael murmured, closing his eyes, "If I fall asleep make sure you take the cigarette away and I don't light my skirt on fire."
I laughed and pushed his fringe back, "Anything for you, baby."
I started the car and started the quick ride to his house. I went the long way, going slow. Michael stayed awake, chain smoking through half of the pack of cigarettes.
I pulled the pack away from him before he could go through the whole pack.
"Are you alright?" I asked.
"Not really." He sighed, resting his head in his hands, "There's a jackhammer slowly breaking my brain down."
I pulled into his driveway and pulled the smaller boy closer.
"It's alright baby. You just need some medicine and some nice warm pajamas." I said softly.
Michael nodded and rubbed his eyes, "You're right."
I tilted his head up and gave him a sweet goodnight kiss.
"Goodnight, baby."
"Goodnight, Luke."

Michael's head shot up from its resting spot in his arms, against the cold cafeteria table.
"That's it!" He shouted, making people look over at the three of us.
"That's what?" Ashton asked, dipping his fries in some ketchup.
Michael looked at him with surprise, then me, like he forgot where he was.
"I was thinking about something, trying to figure it out and I figure it out." He explained.
"Well tell us your theory, Einstein." Ashton said before stuffing his mouth with French fries.
"Love."
Ashton choked on his food, "That's been invented."
"No..wait..no, you can't invent love." Michael said, furring his eyebrows at my boyfriend.
"Ignore him." I sighed, "Love, what?"
"Once you're dating someone, it's not a crush. Its love. Right?" Michael asked.
"Not...necessarily." I said slowly. "I mean, like..well me and Ashton are in love and we're dating. I think its because we've said it. We say I Love You all the time, because we mean it."
"Yeah but you can love someone before you say that though." Ashton butted in, "Like, I told you I loved you since we were sophomores and I didn't say anything until Junior prom. And I didn't even think I could say those words until like, ever. I figured we'd go our separate ways and I'd never be with you."
"Awe." Michael cooed.
"I blurted it out at prom because the whole night I was planning to do it. We'll, I'd be planning since 10th grade. The problem was not puking and getting all worked up."
"Alright, that's gross." Michael whinced.
"I got nervous." Ashton shrugged. "I mean me, the weird outcast with the gorgeous, confident, Princess. I figured he'd say no."
This time I cooed softly at the curly haired boy, "Awe, babe."
"Alright, it's gross again." Michael groaned.
I giggled and pecked Ashton's cheek.
"I don't think its called anything just like, dating." I shrugged, "It's like, the base system. First base, liking. Second, crushing, and home run is love."
"So what's Third Base?" Michael asked.
"Sex."
Michael looked up to see Luke towering over him.
"What did you hear?" Michael asked.
"You asking what third base was." Luke replied, taking his seat next to the relieved boy. "Why? Were we not talking about sex? Or baseball."
"Baseball." Michael lied.
"Oh, cool. I know that shït. What cha need to know?" Luke asked.
Then Luke droned on for half an hour about baseball while no one paid attention.
I'm certain Michael asked about the 'in between crushing and love' phase because he was in that phase. It was the dating phase.
I loved that phase but I think I love the In Love Phase just a little bit more.
