Chapter 44: The Campers' Battle And A Confession

Part Two

Omega's POV

I sorta regretted telling Spike my deepest secret. Now he was circling me, sniffing me suspiciously, eyeing my scars and the way my left hand's fingers seemed to curl up automatically when they weren't gripping a sword. I silently willed Spike away from my left hand. Spike was sniffing it really closely. "What happened to your left hand?" Spike demanded finally, poking it like it was a deadly, smelly bug. Jeesh, talk about rude!

I yanked my hand away and huffed. "Nothing! Let's check on the campers." I snapped, annoyed. Spike rolled his eyes and walked past me, and his tail flicked my nose. I glared at the half-wolf's retreating form and muttered, "Rude." Spike's tail flicked my nose AGAIN. "Call me rude again and I'll throw you off this mountain!" Spike called out before flying above the battle outside. The storm had died down to a drizzle, and I sighed.

I considered Spike's bluff- or not bluff, it' hard to tell- and decided to not test my theory out. I stretched before jumping off the mountain, barely managing to grab Spike's wing. Unbalanced, me and Spike fell out of the sky as quickly as if struck by lightning. Spike yelped as the ground came closer and closer, and I rolled onto Spike's back, his wing still gripped in my hand. We slammed into a hill, but one away from the battle.

And somehow Spike had landed on me. Dam! That wolf needs to lose some weight! I hadn't realized that I had yelled my pain-dazed thoughts into the mind link. Oops. Spike rolled off of me with a huff, looking annoyed. I could hear my team mates screaming with laughter in the mind link. I winced before dragging myself out of the muddy ground. The Minotaur gave me a look of fury, and I knew that he remembered me.

The Beef Brain shoved away the demigod that it had been fighting- Piper McLean. My former friend crumpled and stopped moving. I noticed her condition while taking out Revenge and Justice, not letting my guard down. Monsters and demigods alike were trampled as the bull-man barreled towards me. I narrowed my eyes and corrected my stance. "HEY, BEEF BRAIN! STILL DIDN'T GROW YOUR HORN BACK?" I yelled out.

The Minotaur let loose a roar of fury, and just as his only horn was about to stab me in my torso, I leapt out of the way. I leaned against Spike and smirked at the beast as it pulled it's horn out of the mud. "As tempting as killing you again is, I'm not helping the campers this battle, Beef Brain. Maybe next time." I smirked. The Minotaur stomped his hoof in fury before trying to pull it out of the sticky ground.

I watched in amusement as it finally pulled it's hoof free, only to face-plant into the mud and get the sticky stuff shoved up his nose. This was just too amusing. I glanced at Spike, who was gazing at the battlefield, sniffing the air. Searching for the scent of the death of a demigod, or maybe a certain demigoddess. After all, that was a pretty hard blow she took. I spotted her on a stretcher, being hurriedly carried away before she died.

I could sense her life force, smell it, even, if I concentrated. And it was fading.
